India: J&K HC gives six weeks to govt for identification of illegal foreign immigrants

Jammu, Apr 6 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has given six weeks to the government to identify immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh who are illegally staying in the Union Territory.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi passed the order on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Hunar Gupta seeking deportation of such illegal immigrants.

India: 2 Kashmiris, including and editor in chief, killed by Indian Sec Forces in Srinagar of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, 30 March 2022: Two Kashmiris were killed on Wednesday by Indian security forces in Rainawari area of Srinagar of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

One of the slained Kashmiri, Rayees Ahmad Bhat, based on his ID, was editor in chief of Valley Media Service.

India: Anti-encroachment drive sparks protests in Jammu

Jammu, Mar 27 (PTI) Authorities on Sunday carried out an anti-encroachment drive in different parts of Jammu, triggering protests by people who blocked the Narwal Bypass for several hours, officials said.

Dozens of structures, including buildings and shops, were demolished partially or completely near Bathindi crossing on the Narwal Bypass in the early morning drive by the revenue department amid heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces, they said.

India: Pilot killed in Army chopper crash in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 11 (PTI) An Army Cheetah helicopter on its way to pick up sick BSF personnel crashed near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Gurez Sector on Friday, resulting in the killing of its pilot and injuries to the co-pilot, officials said.

The injured co-pilot has been rushed to a medical facility, they said, adding that his condition was stated to be critical.

The two pilots belonged to Army Aviation Corps and were of the rank of major.

India: 2 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Pulwama district of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, 10 March 2022: Two Kashmiris were killed on Thursday by Indian security forces in Naina Batpora village of Pulwama district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

They were identified as Shahid Ahmed Khan, resident of Batpora, Pulwama, and Fayaz Sheikh, resident of Shahpora, Ganderbal.

India: Friday prayers allowed at Srinagar's Jamia Masjid after 31 weeks

Srinagar, Mar 4 (PTI) Congregational prayers were held at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar's old city area on Friday for the first time in 31 weeks as the number of Covid cases in Jammu and Kashmir showed a rapid decline.

Hundreds assembled at the mosque in the morning for the weekly Friday prayers after over seven months, officials said.
