Two Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces in Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir

Two Kashmiri separatists, including one pursuing Bachelor of Physiotherapy, were killed Thursday by Indian security forces in Anantnag district of Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir.

"On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched at Bagender Mohalla in Bijbehara area in district Anantnag by police and security forces," a police spokesman said.

The spokesman alleged that during searches, the separatists fired upon the search party which retaliated killing two Kashmiri separatists.

Indian Polls: Dismal voter turnout in Mehbooba Mufti's hometown

Bijbehara (J-K), Apr 23 (PTI) A low voter turnout of just above two per cent was witnessed Tuesday in this assembly segment, the home of former chief minister and PDP candidate Mehbooba Mufti, in south Kashmir's Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency, a militancy hotbed, where the election is being held in three phases due to security reasons.

The authorities clubbed seven polling booths of the town inside a building housing the office of the Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Bijbehara 45 kms from the summer capital Srinagar.

Indian Polls: No vote cast in 90 booths in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 18 (PTI) As many as 90 polling booths, mostly in downtown city, saw no voting in Thursday's elections to the Srinagar Parliamentary seat, sources said.

The Srinagar constituency comprising eight assembly segments recorded zero turnout in as many as 50 polling booths.

The majority of these booths were located in Eidgah, Khanyar, Habba Kadal and Batmaloo, sources said.

Srinagar, Apr 17 (PTI) National Conference leader Omar Abdullah Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the "self-anointed chowkidar" has failed on every front.

"Every vital sector of the country is narrating the grim tale of failure. The self-anointed chowkidar has failed on economic front (as) his much touted note ban wasn't able to yield the anticipated results. His undertaking on getting back the black money also turned out to be a damp squib," said the NC vice president.

Indian security forces kill 2 Kashmiri in Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir

Kashmir, Apr 13: Two Kashmiri separatists were killed by Indian security forces in Shopian district of Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The slain Kasmiris have been identified as Abid Wagay, a resident of Rawalpora Shopian, and Shahjahan Mir from Amshepora Shopian.

India: Mehbooba asks Shah to apologise to people of India

Srinagar, Apr 12 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti Friday accused BJP chief Amit Shah of shaking the country's foundations with his recent controversial statements, and asked him to apologise to the people.

She was reportedly referring to Shah's speech at Raiganj in West Bengal on Thursday.

Calling illegal migrants from Bangladesh "termites", the BJP president had said that his party would throw them out after coming to power at the Centre for a second consecutive term

India: J-K's Kishtwar under curfew for fourth day

Jammu, Apr 12 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district remained under curfew for the fourth consecutive day Friday amid strict vigilance by the Army, officials said.

Authorities are planning to relax the curfew for one hour from 4 pm Friday, they said.

A senior RSS leader Chanderkant Sharma and his security guard were killed on Tuesday when a militant opened fire inside a health centre in Kishtwar town, prompting authorities to impose curfew and call the Army to maintain law and order in the communally sensitive region.

Kashmir: Curfew continues for second day in Kishtwar

Jammu, April 10 (PTI) The curfew imposed in Kishtwar district following killing of senior RSS functionary Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO remained in force for the second day Wednesday even as police intensified searches to track down those involved in the killing.

The cremation of the RSS leader will take place later in the day in Kishtwar town amid heavy security.

India: Former BJP minister Lal Singh detained en route to Kishtwar

Bhaderwah/Jammu, Apr 10 (PTI) Dogra Swabhimaan Sangthan (DSS) chief and candidate for Jammu and Udhampur Lok Sabha seats, Choudhary Lal Singh, was Wednesday detained with supporters en route to Kishtwar, officials said.

The former minister was detained in Assar area of the Doda district, the officials said.

India: J&K English news paper staff get death threats

Jammu, Apr 8 (PTI) The staff of one of the leading English dailies of Jammu and Kashmir has received deaths threats from an unidentified person here, prompting the publication to lodge a written complaint with the police, the paper said on Monday.

The Jammu bureau of the Greater Kashmir newspaper got several calls on Sunday, where the unidentified person allegedly threatened to shoot down the staff, the paper's officials said.
