NEW YORK: A 42-year-old Indian-origin man in the US was shot and killed by police in San Antonio after he struck two officers with his vehicle as they were trying to arrest him in connection with an aggravated assault case against a woman.

Sachin Kumar Sahoo was pronounced deceased at the scene after police officer Tyler Turner shot at him on April 21 in San Antonio, a city in Texas.

KATIHAR (BIHAR): I) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday used the analogy of a train to target the BJP's "unstable" alliance with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U).

Taking potshots at Kumar, who dumped the INDIA bloc and returned to the BJP-led NDA a few months ago, Kharge said that "the so-called double engine in Bihar meets with frequent accidents, causing the train cars to decouple".

COLOMBO: Police have arrested a retired Sri Lankan Army officer for being behind a scam to send former military personnel to serve in the Russian army amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

The former major and a civilian were arrested by the police’s criminal investigation department for taking money from individuals to send them to Russia for military service.

It was reported last month that over a hundred former military men from Sri Lanka were serving on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine war.

KABUL, Apr 18 (NNN-ANA) – The number of flood-related casualties in Afghanistan in the past few days has increased, as 70 people have been confirmed dead and more than 50 others sustained injuries, spokesman for the national disaster authority, Mullah Janan Saeq, said.

“The death toll from the floods over the past six days has risen to 70, while another 56 are injured,” Saeq told media, last night.

Earlier, the official confirmed 33 dead and 27 injured a couple of days ago.
