India: Corruption complaints with Lokpal now online

New Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) An online system that enables people to file corruption complaints with the Lokpal was inaugurated here on Monday by the anti-graft ombudsman Chief Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose.

At present, complaints sent by post, e-mail or hand-delivered are entertained by the Lokpal of India, a statement issued by the personnel ministry said.

India: IIT-K develops portable soil testing device for farming lands

Kanpur: The Portable Soil Testing Device developed at IIT here, obtains soil health parameters of agricultural fields with a recommended dose of fertilisers.

The invention uses Near Infra-red Spectroscopy technology to deliver real-time soil analysis findings to smart phones via an embedded mobile app called BhuParikshak, which is accessible on the Google Play Store.

India: Wrong injection takes man's life alleges his father

Kanpur: A man who suffered a fracture and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here died following a wrong injection administered by medical facility's staff, on Friday, as his family alleged.

The deceased patient was identified as Sunil Pal (33), a resident of Unnao.

Nearly three months ago, he had sustained a fracture in one of his hands, as per reports.

He was undergoing treatment at a privately owned hospital in Kalyanpur area here.

India: Delhi Police begins removing barricades following end of farmers' protest

New Delhi, Dec 11 (PTI) As the agitating farmers began returning home after over a year-long protest, the Delhi Police Saturday began removing the multiplayer barricading it had put up at the Tikri border protest site.

The city police had initially installed sharp iron nails on the roads at the Tikri border, one of the three main protest sites on Delhi's outskirts. The barricading was subsequently stepped up with additional concrete barriers and other measures post the January 26 violence to stop protestors from entering the national capital.

India: Army Major kills himself in J-K's Ramban

Banihal/Jammu, Dec 12 (PTI) A 29-year-old Army Major allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle at a camp in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.

Major Parvinder Singh, a resident of Delhi, was at his residential quarter inside the camp at Mahubal in Khari area of Banihal when he fatally shot himself with an AK assault rifle Saturday night, the officials said.

They said the officer had joined the camp as company commander recently.

India: NGO turns beggars into entrepreneurs

Lucknow, Dec 12 (PTI) Nullifying the phrase 'beggars can't be choosers', a non-profit organisation has launched a project to help them earn a living by making items such as laptop and conference bags.

Common Man Trust, a not-for-profit in Varanasi, conceptualised the initiative 'Beggars Corporation' in February and launched it in July.

Laying stress on investment, and not on donation, this corporation envisages to make Varanasi become a beggar-free city by 2023.

India: Man trafficked over 5,000 people arrested by ED

New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested a criminal hailing from Jharkhand, alleged to have trafficked over 5,000 people, as part of a money laundering investigation against him, the agency said on Sunday.

Panna Lal Mahto alias Ganjhu was arrested while he was lodged in the Birsa Munda central jail in Ranchi as part of a criminal probe of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against him.

India: Kanpur gets 25 electric buses on ten different routes

Kanpur: Kanpur District Transport Agency flagged off the plying of as many as 25 electric buses in the city areas on Sunday. These buses will operate on 10 different routes in the city.

These electric buses will be highly useful in not only reducing the pollution levels in the whole of state but they will also provide relaxation from intense noise pollution.

What remains good for the daily passengers is that the fares have been marked even lower than tempo services.
