India: Centre disrespecting majority sentiment with closure of mosques: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar, Oct 2 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday accused the Centre of bias, saying preventing people from offering prayers at mosques and shrines in Kashmir shows the Government of India's "disrespect" for the sentiments of the majority community.

Mehbooba was reacting to the continuous closure of a few mosques and shrines in Srinagar city, including Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta here, for the past few weeks in the wake of a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Chandigarh, Oct 2 (PTI) Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had abruptly resigned as the Punjab Congress chief, said on Saturday he would stand with Gandhi siblings Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi whether he holds any post or not.

Upset with some appointments after Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi took charge, Sidhu had put in his papers and, though efforts were made to placate him, it remains unclear if his resignation has been accepted.

India: Couple, son bludgeoned to death in Kanpur's Fazalganj

Kanpur: A couple and their son were bludgeoned to death in Uchwa area here on Saturday, police said.
The perpetrators allegedly fled the scene with the deceased's motorcycle after executing the killings, a senior police officer said.

The deceased persons are Prem Kishor (45), his wife Geeta (39) and their son Naitik (12).
According to police, Raj Kishor, a driver attached with the additional district and sessions judge, got a call from his neighbour that a milk packet was lying outside his brother Prem's shop and that he was not answering any calls.

India: UP man sentenced to death for raping, killing five-month-old cousin

Lucknow, Sep 30 (PTI) A POCSO court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering his five-month-old cousin.

Pronouncing the verdict, Judge Arvind Mishra said the convict be hanged till death after confirmation of the death penalty from the high court .

India: IT dept detects Rs 500-cr unaccounted transactions after raids on Gujarat real estate group

New Delhi, Oct 2 (PTI) The Income Tax Department has detected unaccounted transactions of over Rs 500 crore after it raided an Ahmedabad-based real estate developer and linked brokers as part of a tax evasion probe, the CBDT claimed on Saturday.

"Documents reveal unaccounted income of more than Rs 200 crore in the hands of the real estate group and also unaccounted income of more than Rs 200 crore in the hands of the parties recorded in the documents found from the possession of the brokers.

India: Petrol, diesel rise to new record highs as rates hiked again

New Delhi, Oct 2 (PTI) Petrol and diesel prices soared to new record highs across the country on Saturday after rates were hiked again by 25 paise and 30 paise a litre, respectively.

The price of petrol in Delhi rose to its highest ever level of Rs 102.14 a litre and to Rs 108.19 in Mumbai, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Diesel rates too touched a record high of Rs 90.47 in Delhi and Rs 98.16 a litre in Mumbai.

India: SYS office-bearer shot dead in Barra, accused held

Kanpur: A young Samajwadi Party office bearer was shot dead allegedly by a fellow party affiliate in Barra area here, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

The incident took place on on Friday evening. The deceased person was identified as Harsh Yadav (20), a law student and resident of Damodar Nagar in Barra here.

Yadav was recently brought in as the district vice-president of Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha of Kanpur Dehat, said an official.

India: Kanpur to be headquarters of three defence public undertakings

Kanpur: The Ministry of Defence has issued a resolution detailing specifics of the formation of the seven Defence Public Sector Undertakings.

It will take over operations of the 41 factories of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).

It now ceased to exist as a body as the resolution came into force on October 1.

Kanpur will have the headquarters of three of the defence public undertakings.

India: Govt forms panel to draw framework for implementation of Assam Accord

Guwahati, Oct 2 (PTI) The Assam government has set up an eight-member committee to prepare a framework for implementation of all clauses of the 36-year-old Assam Accord, especially the Clause-6 report prepared by a central panel pertaining to protecting the cultural, social and linguistic identity and heritage of the indigenous people, officials said on Saturday.
