ISLAMABAD, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that his government remained fully focused on increasing exports to stimulate economic growth.

Exports are one of the major sectors for wealth creation, which can act as the most important driving agent to boost the national economy, Khan said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 14th International Chambers Summit 2022 arranged by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Roads at a popular Pakistani resort were cleared Sunday after the deaths of 22 people who were stuck in their cars during a heavy snowstorm as temperatures plummeted, officials said.

More than 4 feet (1 meter) of snow fell in the area of the Murree Hills resort in the town of Murree near the capital Islamabad on Friday night and early Saturday. The heavy snow caused hundreds of vehicles to become buried or otherwise stuck.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Temperatures fell to minus 8 degrees Celsius (17.6 Fahrenheit) amid heavy snowfall at Pakistan’s mountain resort town of Murree overnight, killing at least 22 people who were stuck in their vehicles, officials said Saturday.

Atiq Ahmed, an Islamabad police officer, said eight of the 22 fatalities were from the family of fellow police officer Naveed Iqbal, who also died. Most of the victims died of hypothermia, officials said.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Each year on Jan. 17, Shahana bakes a cake and invites friends to her home in the Pakistani city of Peshawar. They sing happy birthday for her son, even light a candle. But it’s a birthday without the birthday boy.

Her son, Asfand Khan, was 15 in December 2014 when gunmen rampaged through his military-run public school in Peshawar killing 150 people, most of them students, some as young as 5. Asfand was shot three times in the head at close range.

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- A bomb went off in Pakistan's southwestern Quetta city, capital of Balochistan province, on Thursday, leaving at least four people killed while injuring 15 others, hospital officials said.

Waseem Baig, spokesperson for the Civil Hospital Quetta, where all the injured have been shifted, told Xinhua that they had received four bodies and 15 injured people.

The wounded people are being treated in the trauma center of the hospital, said the spokesperson.

28 Dec 2021; MEMO: The visiting Turkish land forces head met with the Pakistani army chief on Monday to discuss various issues, including defense cooperation and regional security, reports Anadolu Agency.

The meeting between Lt. Gen. Veli Tarakci, the chief of General Staff of Turkish Land Forces, and Pakistan Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa was held at the army headquarters in the northeastern garrison city of Rawalpindi.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 24 (APP): Pakistan on Friday said that as a victim of falsehood and propaganda, it remains committed to countering the virus of disinformation, and will continue to do this through encouraging international cooperation, including under the auspices of the United Nations.

Pakistan-sponsored resolution entitled “Countering Disinformation for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms” was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in New York by consensus, Foreign Office said in a statement issued here.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 23 (APP): Pakistan on Thursday welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution regarding humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan as “a step in the right direction towards helping the Afghan people in dire need.

“As called for by the OIC, pathways should now be found towards revitalizing of the Afghan economy and unfreezing of the assets that rightfully belong to the Afghan people,” Foreign Office Spokesperson Asif Iftikhar said in a statement.
