Pakistan, US National Security Advisers meet in Geneva

ISLAMABAD, May 24 (APP): National Security Adviser of Pakistan Dr. Moeed Yusuf and his counterpart from the United States of America Jake Sullivan met in Geneva on Sunday.

Both sides had a positive conversation on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest and agreed to advance practical cooperation on these issues, a joint statement issued here on Monday said.

Pakistan’s Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Surpass 900,000

ISLAMABAD, May 23 (NNN-APP) – The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan increased to 900,552, after 3,084 more people tested positive during the last 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said, this morning.

The country’s eastern Punjab province is the worst-hit region with 333,971 confirmed cases, followed by southern Sindh province, where 308,118 people have been tested positive, said the NCOC, a department that is leading the country’s fight against the pandemic.

6 killed in attack on pro-Palestine rally in southwest Pakistan

21 May 2021; MEMO: At least six people were killed and several others injured in a bomb blast at a pro-Palestine rally today in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, officials said, Anadolu Agency reports.

The blast occurred at a busy street in Chaman district, which borders neighbouring Afghanistan, Liaquat Shahwani, a spokesman for the Balochistan government, told Anadolu Agency.

Pakistan allows overflight to US military to support presence in Afghan: Pentagon official

Washington, May 22 (PTI) Pakistan has allowed the US military to have overflight and access to be able to support its presence in Afghanistan, a top Pentagon official has told lawmakers.

Assistant Secretary of Defence for Indo-Pacific Affairs David F Helvey also told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Friday that the US will continue its conversation with Pakistan due to the important role it has played to support the peace process in the neighbouring war-torn country.

Pakistan blast kills six, wounds 13 at pro-Palestinian rally

(Reuters) --- A bomb blast killed six people on Friday at a pro-Palestinian rally in southwest Pakistan and wounded 13, including the leader of a hardline religious party that organised the event, police said, but there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The motorcycle bomb exploded as people dispersed at the end of the rally held in the city of Chaman near the Afghan border in the province of Balochistan, the region's police chief, Jafar Khan, told Reuters by telephone.

Father of Londoner found dead in Pakistan demands justice

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — The father of a British woman of Pakistani origin who was found dead at a home in the eastern city of Lahore said he was dissatisfied with a police probe into the murder, but investigators on Friday said they were on the right track.

PM, Chinese premier reaffirm resolve to further strengthen Sino-Pak ties

ISLAMABAD, May 20 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday reaffirmed their resolve to further solidify Pakistan-China bilateral relations.

In a telephonic conversation, the two leaders stressed the need to continue with the momentum of high-level exchanges to further diversify and deepen strategic cooperation between the two countries.

During the call, the 70th anniversary of establishment of Pakistan-China diplomatic ties, bilateral relations and cooperation on COVID-19 vaccine was discussed.

Thousands Take To Streets In Pakistan’s Karachi To Support Palestinians

ISLAMABAD, May 20 (NNN-APP) – Thousands of people, including a large number of women and children, took to the streets in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi, to express solidarity with the Palestinians.

The protest was held in front of the Karachi Press Club, while journalists and a large number of celebrities, also attended it and demanded Israel to stop attacking innocent people.

Pakistan Confirms 3,256 New COVID-19 Cases As Tally Reaches 886,184

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan reported 3,256 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 886,184, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said.

The country’s eastern Punjab province appeared as the worst-hit region with 329,913 confirmed cases, followed by southern Sindh province where 301,247 people have been tested positive, the NCOC said.
