China urges ceasefire, access for humanitarian relief in Gaza Strip

BEIJING, Oct 22 (APP): China has urged an immediate halt to military operations in the Gaza Strip that further aggravate the situation and the opening of humanitarian relief channels, a Chinese envoy said at a summit held in Cairo on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.


The international community should be objective, impartial and practical in promoting a comprehensive, just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue as early as possible, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun said at the summit, CGTN reported on Sunday.

Hurricane Norma makes landfall near Mexico’s Los Cabos and Tammy hits tiny Barbuda in the Caribbean

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (AP) — Hurricane Norma came ashore near the resorts of Los Cabos at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula on Saturday afternoon, and hours later Hurricane Tammy made landfall on the Caribbean island of Barbuda.

Both storms were Category 1 hurricanes when they hit.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Norma, once a Category 4 hurricane, moved ashore with winds of 80 mph (130 kph) near el Pozo de Cota, west-northwest of Cabo San Lucas.

US submits with UN Security Council draft resolution on Middle East settlement

UN, October 22. /TASS/: The United States has submitted with the United Nations Security Council a draft resolution on the Middle East settlement, a source in the global organization told TASS.

According to the wording of the document obtained by TASS, the US draft resolution does not stipulate a call for the ceasefire. There are provisions in the document condemning the Hamas attack, urging the release of hostages and supporting Israel's right to defend itself.

Air quality in Indian capital continues to be very poor

NEW DELHI, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- The air quality in the Indian capital territory continued to be very poor on Sunday, officials said.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), an institute monitoring air pollution, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 302 on Sunday.

The air quality is very poor and prominent pollutants are PM 2.5 and PM 10.

UN Chief Visits Rafah Crossing As Aid Convoy Waits To Enter Gaza

RAFAH, Egypt, Oct 21 (NNN-MENA) – UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, yesterday visited the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, ahead of the anticipated opening of the crossing, to bring needed aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave.

At the Rafah crossing, the only crossing point between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, Guterres said, the large convoy, loaded with food and medicine was “the difference between life and death for the (Palestinian) people.”

6 dead in Russian rocket strike as Ukraine reports record bomb attack numbers

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A missile strike on a mail depot in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv killed six people, Ukrainian officials said Sunday.

A further 16 people were injured in the blast late Saturday, which is believed to have been caused by a Russian S-300 rocket, Kharkiv governor Oleh Syniehubov said on social media.

All of the victims were employees of private Ukrainian postal and courier service Nova Poshta.

Israel calls Hamas' claim it rejected hostage release 'propaganda'

JERUSALEM, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Israel on Saturday described as "propaganda" a claim by Hamas that the militant group had wanted to release two more hostages on humanitarian grounds but that Israel declined to receive them.

Israeli airstrike on Orthodox church in Gaza kills 8 Palestinians, injures several others

20 October 2023; MEMO: At least eight people were killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike on the Greek Orthodox Saint Porphyrius Church in Gaza city, which was sheltering hundreds of Palestinians, local media reported on Friday.

According to the official Wafa news agency, Israeli jet fighters bombed the Greek Orthodox Saint Porphyrius Church on Thursday night, killing eight Palestinians and injuring dozens more, the majority of whom were women and children.
