India: Teenager raped in UP village

Shahjahanpur (UP), Oct 23 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth of her village here, police said Tuesday.

The teenager had stepped out to attend nature's call in the fields when the youth forcibly took the girl to his house and allegedly raped her Monday night, SP (City) Dinesh Tripathi said.

The girl reached her house and informed family members following which a case was lodged.

Efforts are on to nab the youth identified as Mohit of Kudaiya village.

The victim has been sent for medical examination, the SP added.

India: Minor raped by school van driver

New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her school van driver in Shahbad Dairy area of Rohini, police said Tuesday.

The girl told her mother on Monday that she does not wish to go to school as the van driver does "bad things" to her, they added.

The girl's mother approached police following which a case was registered.

The 39-year-old driver was arrested on Monday.

Lioness at Indianapolis Zoo kills her longtime mate

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Zoo is trying to determine why a lioness killed her mate.

The zoo said Friday that an adult female, Zuri, attacked 10-year-old male Nyack in their outdoor yard Monday before the zoo opened for the day.

The zoo says the two had been housed together for eight years and produced three cubs in 2015. Nyack was on loan from the San Diego Zoo.

Turkish prosecutors question more Saudi consulate employees

ISTANBUL, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Turkish prosecutors are questioning more employees of Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul as part of the investigation into the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, local media reported on Monday.

Five Turkish employees are currently giving testimony at the Istanbul prosecutor's office, the state-run Anadolu News Agency said, noting 17 more people from the consulate are also expected to be questioned as witnesses.

US pullout from INF Treaty will trigger negative consequences, Chinese diplomat warns

BEIJING, October 22. /TASS/. Washington’s withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) will result in negative consequences, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Monday.

"The US unilateral withdrawal from the treaty [INF] will have a multilateral negative effect," the Chinese diplomat said.

Imran Khan calls for dialogue to resolve Kashmir issue

Islamabad, Oct 22 (PTI) India should move to resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said Monday.

His remarks came a day after six civilians were killed after an explosive went off at an encounter site in Kulgam district of South Kashmir.

Russia’s return to G7 will solve international crises, Italian PM says

ROME, October 22. /TASS/. Italy calls for Russia’s return to the Group of Seven (G7) as Moscow is an important participant in the process of solving global crises, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte told a news conference at the Foreign Press Association in Rome on Monday.

"If President [Vladimir] Putin returns to the G7 negotiating table, we will be able to solve international problems, which haven’t been settled so far," Conte told reporters, noting that he has been sticking to this stance since assuming office.

Three strong earthquakes hit off Canada's British Colombia coast

OTTAWA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Three strong earthquakes in a row have struck off the coast of the Canadian province of British Columbia on Sunday, according to CTV.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quakes and no tsunami warning was issued.

All three quakes occurred in the same general area over the course of about an hour, and at a shallow depth of approximately 10 kilometers. A 6.6-magnitude quake struck about 260 kilometers west of Tofino, followed by a 6.8 tremor and then a third measuring 6.5.

India: Woman found dead over dowry dispute; husband arrested

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 22 (PTI) The body of a woman was found hanging from the ceiling of her house in Jaroda village here in a suspected case of dowry death, police said Monday.

Rama (25), wife of Sonu, was found dead Sunday, they said.

Sonu has been arrested following a complaint by the victim's brother that the accused along with his family used to torture the woman for dowry, police said.

The brother claimed that his sister was strangulated to death by her husband and in-laws, they said.
