LIMA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The government of new Peruvian President Pedro Castillo will implement an economic policy that will promote private and public investment, Economy and Finance Minister Pedro Francke said on Saturday.
According to Francke, one of the new government's priorities will be job creation, after the COVID-19 pandemic caused around 2.2 million Peruvians to lose their jobs.

LIMA, July 19 (NNN-TELESUR) — The National Jury of Elections (JNE) is set to confirm leftist Pedro Castillo as Peru’s new President after rejecting all the electoral complaints filed by right-wing Popular Force (FP) candidate Keiko Fujimori.
JNE advisor Alexandra Marallano explained that the official announcement might take place on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The decision comes after the JNE reported the conclusion of an electoral review in 60 Special Electoral Juries, where Castillo received 8,835,579 votes, a difference of 44,058 votes over Fujimori.
LIMA, July 4 (NNN-Xinhua) — Peru’s security forces seized a shipment of 236 kilograms of cocaine at the port of the coastal province of Callao, the Anti-Drug Directorate of the National Police reported on Saturday.
According to the police report, the drugs seized were discovered inside a container at the port’s APM Terminals and were destined for the city of Antwerp in Belgium.
“Inside, four suitcases were found with a total of approximately 236 kilos of cocaine,” explained the Anti-Drug Directorate.

LIMA, June 18 (Reuters) - A group of retired officers has suggested Peru's military should refuse to recognize socialist candidate Pedro Castillo if he is declared winner of the country's presidential election if fraud allegations are not investigated, according to a letter circulated widely on social media on Friday.
Interim president Francisco Sagasti confirmed the letter, which was posted on Twitter and Facebook, arrived at the general headquarters of the armed forces, bearing the names of at least 80 retired military personnel.

LIMA, June 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Peruvian socialist candidate Pedro Castillo was close to being named the Andean country’s next president as the vote count neared an end, making a last-minute flip by right-wing rival Keiko Fujimori increasingly unlikely.
Castillo, an elementary school teacher raised in an impoverished village, was leading the count by 51,000 votes on Saturday morning, when only around 62,000 votes remained to be counted.

Castillo, the son of illiterate farmers who has rattled the Andean nation's political elite and garnered huge support from the rural poor, had 50.2% with 99.8% of votes processed, just 0.4% percentage point ahead of right-wing rival Keiko Fujimori.
