Iran: Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict could turn into regional war

07 Oct 2020; MEMO: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani yesterday warned that the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia could become a regional war.

“We must be attentive that the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan does not become a regional war. Peace is the basis of our work and we hope to restore stability to the region in a peaceful way,” Rouhani said in a televised address, adding that the parties to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh must recognise peoples’ rights and respect territorial integrity.

Iran: Face masks must be worn in public in Tehran

07 Oct 2020; MEMO: Iranian authorities have announced their intention to impose the use of protective masks in public places across the capital, Tehran, starting Saturday, local media reported yesterday.

The move comes following a rise in the number of new coronavirus cases, as well as the shortage of beds and medical supplies in the city’s hospitals.

Iran won’t tolerate Azerbaijan, Armenia conflict spilling onto its borders

06 Oct 2020; MEMO: A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Saeed Khatibzadeh, said his country will not tolerate the conflict between neighbouring Azerbaijan and Armenia spilling over onto its borders.

IRNA news agency quoted Khatibzadeh as saying that Tehran had contacted both countries and informed them of its readiness to help solve the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis.

Iran says not care who will become U.S. president

TEHRAN, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Iran does not care who will take the office in Washington in the upcoming U.S. presidential election in November, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Monday.

What matters is "Washington should reverse its hostile policies against Tehran," Khatibzadeh told Tasnim news agency.

"The UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the JCPOA)", should be honored by the United States, Khatibzadeh was quoted as saying.

Iran: Schools and mosques closed in Tehran as COVID-19 infections rise

(Reuters) - Schools, libraries, mosques and other public institutions in Tehran were closed for a week on Saturday as part of measures to stem a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, state media cited authorities in the Iranian capital as saying.

The closure plan, which will also affect universities, seminaries, libraries, museums, theatres, gyms, cafes and hair salons in the Iranian capital, came after Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Coronavirus Taskforce, called for the shutdown to help control the epidemic.

Iran accuses UAE of inciting war

30 Sep 2020; MEMO: The Islamic Republic of Iran on Wednesday accused the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of inciting war, claiming that it became part of the crisis in Western Asia after signing a peace deal with Israel, RT reported.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced: “The UAE’s normalisation of ties with Israel turned into a crisis in Western Asia.”

US’ creation of Daesh allowed Iran to expand its influence: IRGC chief

30 Sep 2020; MEMO: The Chief Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami said the United States’ establishment of Daesh has given Tehran the opportunity to increase its influence in the region.

Speaking to parliament, Salami said the option of war against Iran was not on the table, pointing out that the reconciliation offers with Washington are merely a political ploy to weaken Tehran’s will.

Iran denies reports of secret talks with US in Oman

29 Sep 2020; MEMO: Iran yesterday denied media reports claiming Tehran was holding secret talks with the United States in the Sultanate of Oman, Fars news agency reported.

Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Saeed Khatibzadeh, said: “There have not been and there will not be negotiations between Tehran and Washington.”
