India: Two members of Khalistani module arrested in Amritsar

Amritsar, Oct 19 (PTI) The Punjab Police on Friday arrested two members of a Khalistani module who were allegedly engaged in propagating the 'Referendum 2020' campaign by affixing banners and posters in public places in Amritsar.

'Referendum 2020' is a campaign that seeks to garner support for a separate state for Sikhs -- Khalistan.

The accused were identified as Sukhraj Singh alias Raju and Malkit Singh alias Meetu, police said.

India: Amarinder visits injured; orders magisterial probe

Amritsar, Oct 20 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh Saturday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Amritsar train accident after visiting injured and kin of those killed in the tragedy.

The chief minister postponed a trip to Israel and arrived here this morning to assess the damage.

"We are announcing a magisterial probe into the incident," Singh said while talking to media here.

Sikh community met at Dachar gurudwara – announced anti-BJP stance

Punkab, Karnal: Sikh community made its announcement to boycott BJP completely. Thousands of community members that gathered at Dachar gurudwara in Karnal included representatives from other states.

Chief Minister of Punjab, Manohar Lal, did not participate in gurudwara activities.

Sidhu defends hug in Islamabad, accuses BJP of double standards

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (PTI) Under flak for hugging Pakistan's army chief during his Islamabad visit, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today hit back at the BJP, reminding it of trips to that country by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi as prime ministers.

He defended hugging Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa at the swearing-in ceremony of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan as an emotional response on learning that Sikh pilgrims may now be allowed to visit the Kartarpur shrine across the border.

"Why are there double standards? he said at a press conference here.

Dalit student tricked into drinking urine, attempts suicide

Jalandhar (PB), Aug 8 (PTI) A Class 8 Dalit student attempted suicide in Punjab's Jalandhar after he was allegedly tricked into drinking urine by his classmates and his teacher slapped him for complaining about it, police said today.

The teacher, Shriki Sharma, has been booked yesterday for allegedly assaulting and using casteist slurs against the 12-year-old boy. The student is hospitalised with multiple fractures after he jumped from the roof of his house following the incident in a private school last Friday, a police officer said.

Property registration documents available free of cost in Punjab

Chandigarh, Aug 4 (PTI) The Punjab revenue department has made online 19 templates of documents related to property registration that can be downloaded free of cost, a minister said.

Punjab Revenue Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria said these documents can be easily amended according to the customer's need.

A questionnaire with answers has also been uploaded on the department's website to make registration process easier and people friendly, he added.
