Indian Govt scraps requirement of drone pilot licence

New Delhi, Feb 11 (PTI) The civil aviation ministry on Friday scrapped the requirement of drone pilot licence for operating drones in the country.

The Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) issued by a DGCA-approved drone school through the single window DigitalSky Platform shall be sufficient for operating a drone in India, according to an official.

The official also said that no remote pilot certificate shall be required for operating a drone up to 2 kg for non-commercial purposes.

India: CRPF officer killed in Naxal encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Feb 12 (PTI) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer was killed during an exchange of fire with Maoists in Chhattisgarh's left-wing extremism affected Bijapur district on Saturday, officials said.

The incident took place at Timmapur-Putkel under Basaguda police station area of the district when a CRPF patrol comprising personnel from the 'F company' of its 168th battalion was out for a road opening and sanitising duty.

India: Differently-abled girl raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Feb 12 (PTI) A seven-year-old differently-abled girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district, police said on Saturday.

The accused, Manoj Jhakar (19), has been arrested, they said.

On Thursday, the girl's mother was busy cooking and her father had gone out for some work when the accused took her and her younger brother to the fields on the pretext of showing them a cartoon film on his mobile phone. He raped the girl in the fields, the police said.

India: Ramaipur mega leather cluster to become export hub

Kanpur: With the restoration crate of Rs 1700 crore, the mega leather cluster at Ramaipur in Kanpur will become a major export hub for leather products, footwears and accessories.

The export from this hub will take a growth of at least Rs 1000 crore, almost double from the present.

President, Kanpur Mega Leather Cluster, Mukhtarul Amin, said that the State government in association with Central government will take the Kanpur leather industry to a new height.

India: Plying of e-buses in Kanpur halts for three days due to second mishap

Kanpur: In view of the second e-bus mishap within nearly two weeks, it has been decided by the authorities concerned to take off the electronic bus plying on the road." The plying of e-buses are being withdrawn for three days," said Raj Sekhar, divisional commissioner here.

The speeding e-bus whacked the people when traffic was on a halt due to red traffic light.

One of the injured was hurriedly taken to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital with multiple fractures, the police let out.

India: Hallet's Neurology dept lacks medicines to dispense

Kanpur: Not only medicines but doctors in the Neurology department of the Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Medical College here are not conveniently available.

Prof RK Mauraya, SIC, Lala Lajpat Rai & Associated Hospitals, said, " Purchase of medicines for epilepsy has not been procured owing to its exclusion from rate contract list. There has been sent a letter for initiation of fresh tender. The order shall be placed after obtaining permission."

Reportedly, it was pointed out that the doctors were prescribing medicines of different companies.

India to replace diesel with renewable energy in agricultural sector

NEW DELHI, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- India's federal power minister R K Singh said Friday the country will replace diesel with renewable energy to achieve zero diesel use in the agricultural sector by 2024.

Singh chaired a virtual meeting with state government officials to discuss the energy transition goals of the country. The minister laid emphasis on the need for a state-specific agency dedicated to energy conservation and efficiency.

Man sentenced to 20 years RI for raping stepdaughter in Arunachal

Itanagar, Feb 11 (PTI) A POCSO court in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh has sentenced a 35-year-old man from Assam to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter.

West Kameng POCSO Special Judge Tageng Padoh on Thursday also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Bhawani Chetry, a native of Assam's Biswanath district.

India has about 21 judges per million people

New Delhi, Feb 10 (PTI) India has about 21 judges per million people, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

In a written reply, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said to calculate the judge-population ratio for per million population in a particular year, the Department of Justice in the ministry uses the population as per Census 2011 and as per available information regarding sanctioned strength of judges in Supreme Court, the high court and district and subordinate courts in the particular year.

India: Court sentences man to death for raping minor in Punjab

Kapurthala (Punjab), Feb 10 (PTI) A fast track court here on Thursday awarded death sentence to a man for raping a seven-year-old girl.

Judge Rajwinder Kaur of Additional District and Sessions Court, which is the special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court, also directed the district legal services authority (DLSA) to give a compensation of Rs 8 lakh to the victim's family.
