Pakistan: India must stop its inhuman aggression, immediately leave IIOJK: President

ISLAMABAD, Aug 05 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi Wednesday demanded that the Indian government must immediately cease inhuman brutalities and aggression against the innocent Kashmiris and leave the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir as the Kashmiri people were fed up with the unending torture and oppression.

Pakistan PM: ‘US asked us to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Iran’

05 Aug 2020; MEMO: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday that the mediation efforts that the United States has asked his country to initiate between Saudi Arabia and Iran are making slow progress.

“Our mediation between Iran and Saudi Arabia has not stopped and we are making progress, though it is slow,” Khan told Al Jazeera in an interview to be aired today.

Pakistan: Fakhar Imam for UNSC emergency session over Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD, Aug 4 (APP): Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam Tuesday called for an emergency session of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the deteriorating situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The minister, in a video message aired on PTV, urged the United Nations to play its role in resolving the Kashmir issue and fulfill its promise to give the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination.

Pakistan court appoints three senior lawyers as amici curiae in Jadhav's terrorism case

Islamabad, Aug 4 (PTI) A top Pakistani court has named three senior lawyers as amici curiae in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav as it ordered the Pakistan government to give "another chance" to India to appoint a counsel for the death-row prisoner.

Jadhav, the 50-year-old retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017.

WB announces new Country Director for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 03 (APP): The World Bank (WB) on Monday announced appointment of Najy Benhassine as new Country Director for Pakistan.

“Mr. Najy Benhassine is the World Bank’s new Country Director for Pakistan effective August 1,” said WB press statement issued here. He succeeds Illango Patchamuthu, who completed his term on July 31.

Benhassine most recently served as Regional Director for Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions in the Middle East and North Africa.

Pakistan reports 330 new COVID-19 cases; nationwide tally reaches 280,027

Islamabad, Aug 3 (PTI) The number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan reached 280,027 on Monday after 330 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said.

Eight people died during the period, taking the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in the country to 5,984, the Ministry of National Health Services said.

Pakistan reports lowest COVID-19 cases since May

ISLAMABAD, July 31 (NNN-ANADOLU) — Pakistan on Friday reported around 900 new coronavirus cases, the lowest daily figure in three months, according to official statistics.

With 903 new cases reported over the past 24 hours, the total number of infections to date reached 278,305, with 1,146 of them currently in critical condition, according to Health Ministry data.

UNGA president-elect postpones his visit to Pakistan due to technical flight issues

ISLAMABAD, Jul 26 (APP): Newly elected United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Volkan Bozkir postponed his visit to Pakistan ‘due to some technical flight problems’ which would be rescheduled soon.

On his twitter account, on Sunday, the UNGA president announced “We had to postpone my visit to Pakistan, originally scheduled for 26-27 July, upon invitation by Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, due to some technical flight problems.”

Pakistani Security Forces Kill Key BLA Terrorist In Balochistan: Army

ISLAMABAD, July 26 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan’s army said last night, its security forces killed a key terrorist of the armed group, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), in southwestern Balochistan province.

An army statement said, a major terrorist activity in Balochistan was averted, with the killing of a militant belonging to the BLA.

The paramilitary Frontier Corps in Balochistan, conducted an intelligence-based operation, on a suspected terrorist hideout in the Buleda area of the province, said the statement, from the army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations.

UN says thousands of anti-Pakistan militants in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A U.N. report says more than 6,000 Pakistani insurgents, most belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group attacking Pakistani military and civilian targets, are hiding in Afghanistan.

The report released this week said the organization has linked up with the Afghan-based Islamic State affiliate and some of its members have even joined the IS group, which has its headquarters in eastern Afghanistan.

The Afghan government did not respond to The Associated Press requests Sunday for comment.
