COAS visits troops on forwards posts along Pak-Afghan Border

Dawatoi, NORTH WAZIRISTAN: May 18 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited troops on forward posts along Pak-Afghan Border at Dawatoi in North Waziristan on Saturday.

The COAS was briefed about progress on border fencing, sanitisation operation, socio-economic development projects and rehabilitation of TDPs, said a press release issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

This is the area where due to cross border terrorist attack from Afghanistan on fencing party, three Pakistan Army soldiers had embraced martyrdom on May 1.

Austrian president approves snap election proposed by Kurz

VIENNA, May 18 (Xinhua): Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen approved on Saturday the proposal of holding snap elections after the far-right vice chancellor resigned over an alleged corruption video and effectively led to the collapse of the coalition government.

Russia to participate in information security forum in Guatemala

MEXICO, May 18. /TASS/: A delegation from Russia headed by Security Council Deputy Secretary Oleg Khramov will arrive in Guatemala at the end of May to participate in a cybersecurity forum, spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission in the country Arseny Rebrov told TASS.

"On 28 and 29 May, the first Central American forum will be held in Guatemala on the issues of cybercrimes and global information security," he said. "Russia will be presented by an extended high-level delegation," the spokesman added.

Australia remembers WWII with D-Day exhibition

The exhibition, "D-Day: the Australian story" which will run until September, explores the history of Australians fighting in Western Europe 75 years ago with a selection of items from the National Collection, including: textiles, photographs, diaries, letters, models, artwork, and digital displays.

Cambodia sends 6th batch of 298 troops to Mali for UN peacekeeping mission

PHNOM PENH, May 17 (Xinhua): Cambodia sent the sixth batch of 298 troops, including 25 women, to join a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in the war-torn West African nation of Mali on Friday.

The troops would substitute the fifth batch, whose one-year term had come to an end, Pol Saroeun, a senior minister in charge of sending troops to the UN peacekeeping missions, said during a sending-off ceremony held at the Phnom Penh International Airport.

Russian Pacific Fleet's ships attack 'enemy' submarine at drills in Sea of Okhotsk

MOSCOW, May 17. /TASS/: Small anti-submarine ships have located and attacked an 'enemy' submarine at the military drills in the Sea of Okhotsk, spokesman for the Russian Pacific Fleet Nikolay Voskresensky said on Friday.

"Small anti-submarine ships MPR-107 and MPK-82, with the support of two Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft, have located an 'enemy' submarine in the assigned area. A Russian Pacific Fleet's nuclear-powered submarine was designated as an 'enemy' submarine during the drills," Voskresensky said.

Uzbekistan, China wrap up joint anti-terror drills

TASHKENT, May 16 (Xinhua): The Uzbek National Guard and the Chinese People's Armed Police Force concluded their two-week-long joint anti-terror exercise code-named "Cooperation-2019" at the Forish field training base in the Jizzakh region on Wednesday.

The high level and the quality of the joint exercise have strengthened the friendship and mutual trust between the National Guard of Uzbekistan and People's Armed Police Force of China, said Bakhodir Toshmatov, the commander of the Uzbek National Guard, at a ceremony marking the accomplishment of the joint drills.
