14 October 2023; AA: New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov was arrested Friday after she was seen on social media displaying a handgun at a pro-Palestinian rally at Brooklyn College, according to reports that cited police.
The conservative Republican councilwoman was arrested after turning herself into the 70th Precinct in Brooklyn. She was charged with "criminal possession of a firearm," NBC New York reported.
Multiple protesters took pictures and videos of the 39-year-old councilwoman, which were circulated on social media. Police were notified and the New York Police Department contacted Vernikov after she left the rally, it reported.
She recorded herself in front of protestors, and was seen on video calling them "pro-Hamas," and accusing them of bringing terror to the city.
"If you are here today, standing with these people, you are nothing short of a terrorist without the bombs," she said on the video.
