Canberra; 17 December 2019 (UMM): Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) have issued an alert for India overall, urging a high degree of caution to Australians travelling to India as violent protests broke out across the country following Citizenship Amendment Act.
According to 9 News Dec 17, "Local authorities have imposed curfews in some areas. Transport and communications may be disrupted without notice," DFAT's Smarttraveller said in a safety warning on its official website.
More than 357,000 Australians visit India each year.
Australian warning follows similar warnings by USA and UK to its citizens travelling to India.
