17 July 2021; MEMO: The Internal Security Forces Directorate in Lebanon announced on Friday the detention of a Lebanese citizen in West Beqaa, east of Beirut, over spying for Israeli intelligence, Quds Press reported.
In a statement, the Internal Security Forces Directorate disclosed: "As part of our hunt against spying networks that deal with the Israeli enemy, we confirmed the identity of a person who contacted this enemy."
According to the statement, the person in question was detained on 30 June, 2021, in West Beqaa and is a Lebanese citizen born in 1990.
He confessed that he contacted Israeli security services in 2019, requesting to work for them. An unidentified person replied to his email and tasked him with collecting information and carrying out several missions in return for payment.
In addition, the spy received training from Israeli intelligence, who asked him to collect more information, which he did.
The spy also confessed that he attempted to contact the Israeli army as he had already sent an email to the army's website asking to work for them.
According to the statement, Lebanese security services verified the information given by the spy and confirmed that it was factual.
