DHAKA, April 4 (Xinhua) -- A state-owned Chinese company on Thursday signed an agreement for improvement of Elenga-Hatikamrul-Rangpur Road to a 4-Lane highway in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
China Construction Seventh Engineering Division Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited, signed the official contract with the Bangladeshi government's Roads and Highways Department here.
The highway improvement comes under the South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Road Connectivity Project-II which is funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The Bangladeshi government has taken up the 190.40 km highway upgradation project in view of its importance in connectivity in Bangladesh.
According to project document, the Chinese company will be engaged in implementing several other parts of the project in different phases.
Ebne Alam Hasan, chief engineer of Bangladesh's Roads and Highways Department and Xu Jichao, authorized representative of South Asia Branch of China Construction Seventh Engineering Division Corporation Limited, inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
