New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in India early next month, Russian officials said on Thursday.

India is hosting the meeting of foreign ministers of the SCO countries in Goa on May 4 and 5.

"Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in India," a Russian official said.

Panaji, Apr 11 (PTI) Ahead of multiple G20 meetings in Goa, the coastal state is witnessing fast-paced work on road repairs, infrastructure upgrade, beautification and waste management.

India currently holds the Presidency of the G20, or Group of Twenty -- an intergovernmental forum of the world’s 20 major developed and developing economies. A series of meetings on different issues related to the G20 are being held in states and Union Territories.

Panaji, Aug 6 (PTI) Police on Saturday arrested a taxi driver for molesting a woman tourist who had hired his cab to travel to Anjuna from the state airport, an officer said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi told reporters that the woman from Chennai landed at the Goa airport on Friday night and hired a cab.

When the woman was getting down from the car at Anjuna, the cabbie, identified as Mithun Shrikant Gaur, touched her inappropriately, he said.

Panaji, Mar 20 (PTI) The BJP will meet the Goa governor on Monday and stake a claim to form the next government, state unit resident Sadanand Shet Tanavade said on Sunday.

The much-awaited BJP legislature party meeting will also be held on Monday to select the leader of the House, who will be the next chief minister.

"BJP president J P Nadda has informed that the legislature party meeting would be held on Monday after which party leaders will meet Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and stake a claim to form the next government," Tanavade told a press conference.

Panaji, Mar 9 (PTI) Twenty MLAs in the 40-member Goa House resigned and switched sides during the last five years of the outgoing Assembly.

Two prominent MLAs - Manohar Parrikar and Francis D'Souza - died during the period.

Panaji, Feb 8 (PTI) Aam Aadmi Party leader Amit Palekar on Tuesday said the BJP's manifesto for the Goa Assembly elections was a "scam".

Goans will not fall for the ruling party's promises, said Palekar, the AAP's chief ministerial candidate.

The 22-point manifesto of the BJP is nothing but a scam, he told reporters.

To fulfill ten promises made ten years ago, the BJP is asking people to vote for it for another five years, Palekar said.

Panaji, Jan 22 (PTI) As many as 24 legislators in Goa, which is 60 per cent of the total strength of the 40-member state Assembly, have switched parties in the last five years, a report by an organisation has said.

The Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) said in its report that with this, Goa has set a unique record, which is "unparalleled" in the history of Indian democracy.

Assembly polls in Goa will be held on February 14.

New Delhi, Jan 13, (PTI) The Shiv Sena is upset at being given a cold shoulder by the Congress over its proposal to repeat the Maharashtra coalition experiment in the Goa Assembly elections.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday said the political situation it Goa is such that the Congress cannot go beyond single digit if it contests the assembly polls in the coastal state on its own.

Panaji, Jan 10 (PTI) Goa minister and BJP MLA Michael Lobo on Monday resigned from the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet and also as member of the Legislative Assembly, ahead of the state polls scheduled next month.

The Goa BJP unit later said Lobo's move will not have any impact on the party's prospects in the state Assembly elections, to be held on February 14.

Panaji, Dec 21 (PTI) Carlose Almeida, the BJP MLA from Vasco, on Tuesday quit the ruling party and resigned as a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly ahead of state polls.

The MLA said he was quitting as he had been asked to work in the constituency under the leadership of Daji Salkar against whom he had filed a case of fraud.

Assembly polls are due in the coastal state early next year.

Almeida became the second BJP MLA to quit the party and seventh legislator to resign from the Assembly in the recent weeks.
