Plan to maintain Ganga clear

KANPUR: An action plan to restrict the tossing of wastes and immersion of dead bodies is nearly ready. The Kanpur Municipal Corporation has been authorised to keep a vigilant eye over stopping this menace.

Wastes flowing through the Nullahs, throwing of litters and immersing of the carcass into the Ganga waters need to be controlled by December 15. This deadline should be followed.

The Principal Secretary (Urban Development) Manoj Singh said that regular cleaning of the sacred river and its ghats should be undertaken.

Tons of rubbish flows into the river every day. Polythene, pieces of cloth and Puja materials are thrown into the river.

According to a recent report most of the plastic waste into the sea flows through the Ganga. About two tonnes of the litters are tossed into the river in Kanpur alone.

The Municipal Commissioner SK Sharma said that the regular cleaning work has started around the ghats and planning to stop tossing of litters into the river is being restricted.
