CAIRO, July 23 (NNN-MAP) -- The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union has lauded the pivotal role of Morocco's King Mohammed VI, who is also Chairman of Al Quds Committee, in defending the rights of Palestinians.
Speakers and delegates from Arab national parliaments and assemblies lauded the pivotal and pioneering role of the King in defending the rights of the Palestinian people, according to the final statement of the 28th Extraordinary Session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, held here over the weekend.
They also expressed their rejection of the US Administration's decision to recognize Al Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel and to move the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Al Quds, considering it as a violation of the peace process, international conventions and resolutions on this issue.
They also rejected the adoption by the Knesset, the Israeli parliament of a law on the "Jewish nation-state", stressing that this text is antithetical to the provisions of international law and the universal principles of human rights.
The law is likely to torpedo international efforts to find a peaceful and just settlement to the Palestinian issue, the statement said. -- NNN-MAP
