INDIANAPOLIS, April 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Seven minors between the ages of 12 and 17 were injured in a shooting late Saturday night in downtown Indianapolis, where a large group was gathered near a mall, authorities said.
Police officers were on patrol when they heard shots fired near the Circle Centre Mall shortly after 11:30 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Tanya Terry told reporters early Sunday. Responding officers discovered “a large group of juveniles,” including six with gunshot wounds, at the scene, Terry added.
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Police in central Indiana are investigating the deaths of three people fatally shot at a home.
Muncie police found the bodies of two men and a woman on Friday afternoon at a home on the city’s west side. A person called 911 Friday to check on a resident of the home and was unable to make contact, Deputy Chief Melissa Criswell said Saturday.
Criswell said there were no signs of forced entry at the residence and there was “no active threat to the community.”
KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — A jury has acquitted one of two brothers charged in a decade-old slaying in north central Indiana.
The jury deliberated less than 90 minutes Friday night before acquitting 36-year-old Jesse McCartney of Kokomo of all charges in the death of 21-year-old Destiny Pittman. She was found shot to death Feb. 7, 2013, at her Kokomo home.
McCartney was charged with two counts of felony murder and other counts including robbery resulting in bodily injury, burglary resulting in bodily injury and conspiracy to commit burglary.
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Two people in their 90s died and a third person was injured when a fire and reported explosion destroyed a home in west-central Indiana, authorities said.
Crawfordsville Fire Chief Scott Busenbark said crews were called Saturday morning to a house fire and found one person on the home’s front lawn. He said the injured person was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital in stable condition, WXIN-TV reported.

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) — An eastern Indiana police officer who was shot in the head during a traffic stop in August has died more than two weeks after she was removed from life support, authorities said.
Richmond Police Department Officer Seara Burton died Sunday night at a Reid Health facility surrounded by her family, the department said in a statement posted to Facebook.
“We would sincerely like to thank the Richmond community, and those who have supported Seara, her family, and the department from near and far,” the statement from several officials said.
