Jordan, Turkey approve economic cooperation agreement

AMMAN, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi said Tuesday that Jordan and Turkey approved of an agreement to boost economic cooperation.

He made the remarks in Amman following a meeting with his visiting Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Safadi said specialists from the two countries' ministries of foreign affairs, as well as relevant ministries, would build up a road map to identify priorities for future economic cooperation as part of the agreement, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Jordan, Qatar Reiterate Continued Coordination To Support Palestinians

AMMAN, Aug 17 (NNN-XINHUA) – Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, said, his country is continuing the coordination with Qatar, to support the Palestinians, to find a political horizon and improve its economy.

Safadi made the remarks, when meeting with his visiting Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Amman, where the two diplomats discussed ways of advancing bilateral ties in various fields.

Royal Jordanian Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Amman

AMMAN, Aug 3 (NNN-PETRA) – A Royal Jordanian flight from Cairo, yesterday, made an emergency landing in Amman, with all passengers and crew members safe and sound, it was reported.

Royal Jordanian Airlines announced that, its flight RJ 508 was forced into an emergency landing, at Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport, 10 minutes ahead of the scheduled landing time, Petra said.

All 133 passengers and six crew members of the flight were evacuated after the successful landing, according to the airline.

Syrian army steps up offensive in restive southern city

AMMAN, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Syrian troops stepped up shelling of an opposition enclave in the southern city of Deraa in a bid to assert control over an area that has defied state authority since it was retaken three years ago, witnesses, the army and residents said.

An army assault on the old quarter of Deraa suffered a blow on Thursday when rebels mounted a counter-offensive across the province, capturing dozens of troops. 

Jordan to vaccinate children aged 12 years and older against COVID-19

25 July 2021; MEMO: Jordan will start vaccinating children aged 12 years and older against COVID-19 from Sunday, Reuters reported the state news agency as saying on Saturday.

Children can be given the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine with the approval of a guardian with no prior appointment necessary, the agency quoted the health ministry as saying.

European bank supports Jordan's private sector with 100 mln euros

Amman, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The European Investment Bank (EIB) said on Sunday that it provided 100 million euros (119 million U.S. dollars) as a line of credit to support the private sector in Jordan against the impact of COVID-19, state-run Petra news agency reported.

The sum was offered to Jordan Kuwait Bank that will on-lend it to the country's small and medium-sized enterprises that have been severely impacted by the unprecedented crisis, EIB said.

Syrian Refugees In Jordan Worry As WFP To Cut Food Aid

AMMAN, Jun 30 (NNN-PETRA) – Mohammad Harkal, a Syrian refugee living in Jordan with his wife and five children, voiced concern that he would not be able to put bread on the table for his family, if there is no aid from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

His family eats yoghurt and falafel for breakfast, and potato with rice for lunch or dinner. Using the WFP coupon to buy food from the stores, he said, if aid from the WFP and the United Nation Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is cut, “we cannot live at all.”
