COVID-19 Situation In Jordan Good, Improving: Health Minister

AMMAN, Jan 5 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordanian Health Minister, Nathir Obeidat, announced that, the COVID-19 situation in the country is good and improving.

A field hospital started operations in the capital, Amman, to treat patients, Obeidat said, adding, two others in Irbid and Aqaba will soon be opened and a fourth one to be opened in the southern city of Maan.

“The improvement in the situation does not mean we are safe, as we are still battling the virus, and more caution is needed. We all must adhere to physical distancing and wearing masks,” the minister noted.

Jordan declares its first marine reserve in Red Sea

AMMAN, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Sunday announced its first marine reserve in the Red Sea port city of Aqaba with the object of preserving coral reefs and marine ecosystems as well as promoting sustainable development.

The cabinet has recently approved the declaration of the reserve, which is also hoped to promote tourism and underwater activities in the southern city, according to a statement by the Environment Ministry published by the state-run Petra news agency.

Jordan condemns terrorist attack against Iranian scientist

Tehran, Nov 30, IRNA -- Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the terrorist attack against Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

According to The Jordan News Agency (Petra), Jordan's Foreign Ministry spokesman on Sunday night, emphasized on the necessity of collective efforts to reduce tension, prevent escalation of tension in the region, and maintain security and stability.

Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the “heinous” terrorist attack against Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Jordan Condemns Israel’s Plans For More Settlements In East Jerusalem

AMMAN, Nov 24 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, yesterday, denounced Israel’s authorisation to build some 540 more new settlement units, in East Jerusalem.

Jordan’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Daifallah Fayez, said, these settlements are considered a violation of international law and UN resolutions, mainly the UN Security Council Resolution 2334.

Israel’s settlement policy hinders the process of peacemaking and conflict resolution, “destroying” any opportunity for the two-state solution, the spokesperson added.

Jordan demands international pressure to stop Israel settlement expansion

25 Nov 2020; MEMO: Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesman Daifallah Al-Fayez yesterday condemned Israel's approval of 540 new settlement units in the illegal settlement of Har Homa in occupied East Jerusalem, Safa news agency reported.

Al-Fayez stressed that these settlement activities are "completely rejected" as "they amount to violations to international law and the UN resolutions on top of which Resolution 2334."

Jordan King holds phone call with Biden over bilateral ties

AMMAN, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday held a phone call with U.S. "President-elect" Joe Biden to discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries, according to a statement by the Royal Court.

During the phone call, the Jordanian King said he expected to work with Biden on advancing the strategic partnership and deepening cooperation between Jordan and the United States in service of mutual interests and regional security and stability.

Jordan, Palestine Call For “Stopping All Israeli Violations”

AMMAN, Nov 17 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, and his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad Al-Malki, yesterday held talks, discussing developments concerning the Palestinian cause.

During the meeting, in the Jordanian capital Amman, the ministers stressed the importance of stopping Israeli violations, which hindered the process of establishing peace, condemning the construction of new settlements in Givat Hamatos and other areas, a statement by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, said.

Lebanese security chief visited Syria in efforts to free U.S. captive

AMMAN (Reuters) - Lebanese Security Chief Abbas Ibrahim visited Damascus after a trip to Washington as part of efforts to free U.S. citizen Austin Tice, who is thought to be held in Syria, Lebanese broadcaster al Jadid reported on Saturday.

Ibrahim told al Jadid he went on a two day visit to Damascus and was in regular contact with Tice’s mother to tell her that he would continue to work on her son’s “file”.

“I won’t stop working on this subject and I promised Tice’s mother whom I met in Washington and am in daily touch with on the phone,” he told the broadcaster.
