India releases two Pakistani nationals

Amritsar, Dec 26 (PTI) India sent home Wednesday two Pakistani nationals, including a 21-year-old who said he had crossed over in 2017 to meet Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.

Abdullah and Mohammed Imran Qureshi Warsi were repatriated through the Attari-Wagah border on the basis of an emergency travel certificate issued by the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, officials said.

Maj Gen found guilty of misbehaving with woman officer

Chandigarh, Dec 24 (PTI) A serving Major General has been recommended for dismissal from service by a General Court Martial (GCM) for allegedly misbehaving with a woman officer.

The GCM, presided over by a LT General Giriraj Singh, found the Maj Gen guilty under Section 354 A (attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman) and Section 54 of the Army Act (conduct unbecoming of an officer), prosecution counsel D S Ahluwalia said Monday.

India: Minor raped by father, his friend; found pregnant

Rupnagar (Pb), Dec 21 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was found pregnant after being repeatedly raped allegedly by her father and his friend here, police said, adding that both the accused were booked Friday.

The girl is seven months pregnant, Bharat Bhushan, SHO, Rupnagar civil lines police station, said.

She was living with her father in a village in this district.

According to police, her father and one of his friends, who was living with them, raped her repeatedly.

Chandigarh, Dec 11 (PTI) Terming the assembly poll results in three Hindi heartland states as a mandate for the leadership of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday claimed that it was the "beginning of the end" of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.

The Chief Minister said the Congress' performance showed that the party was on an upswing across the country.

India: BJP govt taking country on 'wrong path': Manmohan

Mohali (Pb), Dec 10 (PTI) Former prime minister Manmohan Singh alleged Monday the BJP-led central government was taking the country towards a "wrong path" and the nation's freedom could be under threat due to its actions.

He said the Congress had played an important role in strengthening the country's freedom, but "during the last four and a half years, the BJP laid emphasis on things which could adversely affect India's history".

"This can again endanger country's freedom," he said.

3 killed, 20 injured injured as grenade hurled on religious congregation in Amritsar

Amritsar, Nov 18 (PTI) Three persons were killed and 20 injured in a grenade attack on a religious congregation here on city outskirts on Sunday, an incident which the police are treating as a terrorist act .

The incident took place inside the Nirankari Bhavan at Adliwal village near Amritsar's Rajasansi, police said.

A religious congregation of the Nirankaris was being conducted inside the Bhavan at the time of the incident. The Sant Nirankari Mission is a spiritual organisation and the Bhavan here lies close to the international airport.

India: Class 1 girl student raped in Punjab

Phagwara (Pb), Oct 31 (PTI) A Class 1 girl student was allegedly raped by an unidentified man while she was returning home from school here, police said Wednesday.

The six-year-old girl's mother reported the matter to police when she saw her weeping and bleeding on Tuesday, Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Jatinderjit Singh said.

He said the minor girl was returning home from school when she was raped by an unidentified man.

The victim was medically examined, the SHO said.

India: SAD demands withdrawal of history chapters of 12th class

Chandigarh, Oct 24 (PTI) Shiromani Akali Dal Wednesday demanded immediate withdrawal of two newly-inducted chapters of class 12 history books of the Punjab School Education Board, terming their contents as historically distorted and defamatory" to Sikh gurus and religion.

In a statement here, former Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema said the new chapters, which were released online, had numerous mistakes and factual errors .

India: School teacher booked for molesting girl students

Nawanshahr, Oct 23 (PTI) A government school teacher was Tuesday arrested for allegedly molesting girl students here, police said.

Sulakhan Singh (51), was booked under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, they added.

The Section 10 of POCSO Act deals with crime coming under the category of aggravated sexual assault .
