India: Army, Shehla Rashid Lock Horns Over 'Torture' Charge

New Delhi; 19 Aug 2019; GANASHAKTI: Terming them ‘baseless,’ the Indian Army on Sunday rejected two specific claims made by activist and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement leader Shehla Rashid on the ground situation in Kashmir, ANI reported.

These were among the ten allegations levelled by Rashid in a series of tweets – based on “things that people coming from Kashmir say about the situation.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the terror outfit Bajrang Dal held a bike rally in Jammu on Sunday, while the mobile internet services were disconnected to avert any counter protest and violence.

According to NDTV, mobile internet snapped in Jammu on Sunday, barely days after it was fully restored. While the administration blamed a mechanical glitch, local sources said it was disconnected to keep the peace during a rally by right wing groups.

India reimposes movement curbs on parts of Kashmir's main city after clashes

SRINAGAR (Reuters) - Indian authorities reimposed restrictions on movement in major parts of Kashmir’s biggest city, Srinagar, on Sunday after violent overnight clashes between residents and police in which dozens were injured, two senior officials and eyewitnesses said.

In the past 24 hours, there has been a series of protests against New Delhi’s Aug. 5 revocation of the region’s autonomy. This followed an easing in curbs on movement on Saturday morning.

Landline services in 17 exchanges of Kashmir restored

Srinagar, Aug 17 (PTI) Landline services in 17 exchanges of the Kashmir Valley were restored on Saturday, officials said.

Seventeen out of a little over 100 telephone exchanges were made operational. These exchanges are mainly in Civil Lines area, Cantonment area, airport of Srinagar district.

Curbs in J-K being lifted gradually, says Union Minister

Hyderabad, Aug 17 (PTI) The restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of abrogation of Article 370 are being lifted gradually and the situation should be normal within a week, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said on Saturday.

Precautionary measures were being taken in view of provocative statements and others coming from Pakistan, he said.

India: J&K govt offices to be open from Friday

Srinagar, Aug 15 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir government secretariat and other offices will start functioning from Friday while easing of public curbs would depend on day's development after the 'namaaz', a Raj Bhawan spokesperson said on Thursday.

Governor Satya Pal Malik directed the resumption of normal functioning of the government secretariat and other offices after a review of the security scenario in the state on Thursday evening, he added.

The governor also ordered for making arrangements to facilitate the government employees' movement to work, he said.

India: Kashmir remains shut for 12th consecutive day

Srinagar, Aug 16 (PTI) Kashmir remained shut for the 12th consecutive day on Friday, even as the authorities relaxed restrictions on the movement of people in Srinagar.

"Restrictions on the movement of people have been eased in most parts of the Valley. The situation so far has remained peaceful," a senior official of the state administration said here.

He said while the deployment of security forces on the ground remains as earlier, people were allowed to move around the city and other towns.
