India: Flour mill in J&K's Udhampur sealed

Jammu, Aug 2 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday sealed a flour mill in Udhampur district after the manufacturing unit was found flouting the norms, officials said.

A special team constituted by Food and Drugs (F&D) Administration sealed the Shalimar Flour Mill after finding irregularities, the officials said.

The inspecting team found lack of any quality check system, incorrect printing of date of manufacturing on bags and inappropriate storage of food material, they said.

Srinagar, Aug 2 (PTI) Kashmir remained on the edge on Friday as a fresh order asking tourists and Amarnath yatris to leave the Valley triggered panic among the residents as they started stocking up dry ration and essentials, fearing long law and order disturbance.

The state government issued an advisory to Amarnath pilgrims and tourists to curtail their stay in Kashmir immediately.

Srinagar, Jul 29 (PTI) A fresh order directing the five zonal superintendents of police to provide the list of mosques in the city and its management committees has added to the speculation about some major decision in the offing regarding Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

India: Centre rushes 10,000 troops to Kashmir

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The Centre has ordered rushing of about 10,000 central forces personnel to the Kashmir valley in order to strengthen counter-insurgency operations and law and order duties there, officials said Saturday.

They said the Union home ministry has ordered the deployment of 100 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) on July 25 on an "immediate" basis.

Officials said that 100 more companies are expected to be sent to the valley.

India: Hurriyat welcomes Trump's offer to mediate on Kashmir

Srinagar, July 23 (PTI) The moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday welcomed US president Donald Trump's offer of mediation between Indian and Pakistan for resolution of Kashmir issue.

"People of Kashmir, being the most affected party in the conflict, have always strongly advocated resolution through dialogue at all levels and among India and Pakistan. Every effort and push in that direction is welcome," Hurriyat said in a statement.

India: JK Governor's 'kill' statement irresponsible: Cong

Jammu, Jul 22 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress on Monday termed as "irresponsible" the statement of state Governor Satya Pal Malik that militants should stop killing innocent people and target the corrupt.

The Congress party, however, said it fully supports any drive to fight corruption in the state but there should not be a selective approach in the fight.

Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Sopore area of Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, July 18: A Kashmiri has been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district of Indian administered Kashmir, an Indian official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesperson alleged that a cordon and search operation was underway in the area following information about presence of Kashmiri separatist.

India: 13,004 pilgrims pay obeisance at Amarnath cave shrine

Srinagar, Jul 12 (PTI) A total of 13,004 pilgrims paid obeisance at the naturally formed ice lingam in the cave shrine of Amarnath on Friday, officials said.

With this, the number of pilgrims who have visited the shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas has crossed 1.5 lakh, they said.

"On the 12th day of the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra, 13,004 yatris paid obeisance at the holy cave. Till date, 1,57,062 yatris have had the darshan of the Shivling," a spokesperson of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board said.

India claims of Pakistan shelling on forward posts along LoC

Jammu, Jul 12 (PTI) The Pakistan Army on Friday violated ceasefire by firing and mortar shelling on forward posts and civilian areas along the LoC in three sectors of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri and Poonch districts, drawing befitting retaliation from Indian troops, a defence PRO said.

"At about 0800 hours today, Pak army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation with firing of small arms & later shelling with mortars along LoC in Mankote, Krishna Ghati sectors of Poonch district and Nowshera sector of Rajouri district@, Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) told PTI.
