Two Kasmiris killed by Indian security forces

Srinagar, Jan 12 (PTI) Two militants were Saturday killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Katpora area in south Kashmir's Kulgam district this evening after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

As the forces were conducting the searches, the militants fired upon them. The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which two militants were killed, he said.

Shah Faesal keen to contest LS polls but won't join mainstream parties 'as of now'

Srinagar, Jan 11 (PTI) Former IAS officer Shah Faesal, who quit the service recently, Friday shared his future plans, saying he would not join any mainstream political parties "as of now", or separatist Hurriyat Conference, but would be happy to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The 2010-batch officer said he was deeply inspired by the style of politics of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, but the "situation" in Jammu and Kashmir would not allow him to pursue politics their style.

Hizbul commander condemns waving of ISIS flags at mosque

Srinagar, Jan 6 (PTI) Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo Sunday condemned waving of ISIS flags inside Jamia Masjid here last month.

In an audio message, which went viral on social media on Sunday, Naikoo purportedly said linking the Kashmir militancy with the dreaded ISIS was a ploy to "defame our struggle".

Srinagar, Jan 3 (PTI) Three militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday, the Army said.

The security forces launched an anti-insurgency operation in the higher reaches of Tral area in the morning following information about the presence of at least two militants in the forests, an Army official said.

The search operation turned into an encounter when the militants, who were hiding, opened fire, the officer said.

India: Man arrested for raping woman Udhampur

Jammu, Jan 3 (PTI) A man was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping a woman in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, police said.

A police official said that a written complaint was received at Police Station Pancheri from a woman, a resident of Kothi laid Lower Meer, he said.

The accused allegedly dragged her to a nearby forest and rape her while she was returning home from Kaithgali towards Kothilaid, he said.

After the incident, he threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to police or anyone else.

Police warns against investing in cryptocurrency

Jammu, Jan 2 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Police Wednesday issued an advisory warning people not to make investments in cryptocurrencies like bitcoin due to the "heightened risk" associated with them.

The police also said this form of currency was not backed as legal tender by the government and central financial institutions.

PoK refugees' dharna in Jammu enters sixth day

Jammu, Jan 1 (PTI) A protest by refugees from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) here against the state and central governments for not fulfilling their various demands entered its sixth day on Tuesday.

Led by SOS International, an organisation advocating the cause of PoK displaced persons (DP), the protesters began the indefinite chain dharna on December 27.

They are demanding implementation of a package approved by the Jammu and Kashmir cabinet in October 2014 for PoK DPs, among others.

Pakistan troops target forward posts, villages in Rajouri

Jammu, Dec 24 (PTI) Pakistani troops Monday opened fire and shelled forward posts and villages along the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The firing and shelling from across the border started in Keri, Lam, Pukharni and Peer Badaser areas of Noushera sector around 9.30 am, a police officer said.

Army personnel guarding the LoC retaliated and the cross-border firing between the two sides was going on when last reports came in.

There was no immediate report of any casualty, the officer said.
