Kanpur: Rejecting the chance of tampering with the electronic voting machines, IIT Professor & Member, Technical Committee, Prof. Rajat Muna said that the EVM could not be tampered and this makes it the most safest machine for voting purpose. It can neither be connected with WiFi nor the Internet. 

After the year 2016 this machine was made available in ample numbers. The machine has been designed as such that linking with one another remains possible. 

Kolkata, May 21; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Train services in the Eastern Railway's Sealdah division were disrupted for the second day Tuesday owing to a rail blockade by protesters at Kankinara, as clashes continued between the TMC and the BJP supporters in Bhatpara, where assembly bypoll was held Sunday.

Notwithstanding the prohibitory orders imposed in the area, unidentified men hurled a crude bomb outside Kankinara railway station, but no one was injured in the incident, a police officer said.

New Delhi, May 21 (PTI) Robert Vadra, who is an accused in a money laundering case, Tuesday moved a Delhi court seeking permission to travel abroad.

The counsel for Vadra requested Special judge Arvind Kumar to ensure details of his itinerary are not shared with a third party as it was a matter of his security.

The counsel also requested the plea be taken up on May 24 as the lead counsel was not available for arguments today.

Ahmedabad, May 21 (PTI) Anil Ambani's Reliance Group has decided to withdraw the Rs 5,000-crore civil defamation suits filed in an Ahmedabad court against Congress leaders and National Herald newspaper over their statements and an article on the controversial Rafale fighter jet deal.

The suits were being heard in the court of city civil and sessions judge P J Tamakuwala.

"We have intimated the defendants that we are going to withdraw the suits against them," the complainant's lawyer, Rasesh Parikh, told PTI on Tuesday.

New Delhi, May 22 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday took note of violence during Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal and agreed to hear the plea of BJP candidate from Barrackpore seat seeking protection from arrest in several cases lodged against him by state police.

A vacation bench comprising Arun Mishra and M R Shah took note of the submissions of BJP leader Arjun Singh that he be granted protection from arrest as he wanted to be present during counting of votes for Lok Sabha elections tomorrow at Barrackpore in West Bengal.

Itanagar, May 21 (PTI) Suspected NSCN militants Tuesday gunned down sitting MLA and NPP assembly poll candidate Tirong Aboh and ten others, including his son and security personnel, in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, a top police officer said.

Aboh (41), who represented the Khonsa West constituency, was seeking a re-election from the seat.

Sriharikota: May 22 (PTI) In a pre-dawn launch on Wednesday, Indian space agency ISRO scripted history by successfully launching earth observation satellite RISAT-2B that would enhance the country's surveillance capabilities among others.

As the 25-hour countdown which had began Tuesday concluded, the agency's trusted workhorse, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C46) blasted off at 5.30 am from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here on its 48th mission, carrying the 615 kg satellite.

Karimnagar (Telangana), May 21 (PTI) Seeking to ensure a decent funeral for the poor, the civic body in Karimnagar town of Telangana will launch a scheme next month under which last rites can be performed for just one rupee.

According to Karimnagar Mayor S Ravinder Singh, the 'Antim Yatra Aakhri Safar' would be launched on June 15 and Rs 1.10 crore had already been allotted for the initiative, which would take care of the funeral as per the religious customs of the deceased.

Raipur, May 21 (PTI) Nine Naxals, three of them carrying cash rewards on their heads, surrendered Tuesday in Chhattisgarh, police said.

Seven of them surrendered in Bijapur district while two surrendered in Sukma district. Both districts fall in the insurgency-hit Bastar division.

Laxman Vanjami (29), Neelkanth Ranjit (26), Gudsa Vacham (29), Raju Ram Vacham (30), Laysu Vacham (25), Manga Diwa (18) and Chinna Majji (19) turned themselves in before Bijpaur police.

Srinagar, May 22: Two Kashmiris have been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Kulgam district, an Indian army official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesman alleged that a cordon and search operation in Gopalpora area of Kulgam was conducted following information about presence of Kashmiris separatists.
