Two Naxal terrorists gunned down in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Nov 12 (PTI) Two Naxals were gunned down Monday evening in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

Two other rebels were caught from the encounter site, an official said.

The gunfight took place in forests near a village under Pushpal police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was returning after discharging election-related duty, Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena told PTI.

Dengue cases rise to 1,875 in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) Nearly 280 fresh cases of dengue have been reported over the last one week in the national capital, taking the total number of people diagnosed with the vector-borne disease this season to 1,875, a municipal report released Monday said.

According to the report, there has been one death due to dengue this year till November 10.

At least 1,114 cases were reported in October only.

Also, 450 cases of malaria and 141 of chikungunya have been reported this season till November 10 the report said.

India: 5-time BJP MLA resigns as minister, quits party

Jaipur, Nov 12 (PTI) A Rajasthan minister, who was dropped by the Bharatiya Janata Party in its first list of candidates for the assembly election, resigned from his post and the party on Monday.

Surendra Goyal, the public health engineering and ground water minister who represents the Jaitaran constituency, tendered separate resignations to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and the party's state president, Madan Lal Saini.

Army soldier killed by Pakistani sniper in J-K's Poonch

Jammu, Nov 12 (PTI) An Army soldier was killed and another injured Monday by a Pakistani sniper along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesperson said.

Two Army personnel fell to sniping in Sunderbani and Noushera sectors of Rajouri district on Saturday and Sunday, while an Army porter lost his life in a similar attack in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district a day earlier.

More than 600 Mohalla Clinics to come up in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) The Delhi government will come up with over 600 Mohalla Clinics, with close to half of it to be opened at schools run by it, an official source said.

In a review meeting on the Mohalla Clinic project on Monday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed the officials to ensure adequate availability of medicines and staff in the state-run clinics and hospitals, the government source said.

India: 70 per cent turnout in first phase of Chhattisgarh polls

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) Around 70 per cent voter turnout was registered in the first phase of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, the Election Commission (EC) said Monday.

The turnout was likely to go up as the final figures were yet to be received, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said.

In the first phase, voting was held in 18 of the 90 Assembly seats in Chhattisgarh.

Till 5.30 pm, the overall voter turnout was 58.55 per cent, the EC said.

India: Unfair to blame Haryana for Delhi's pollution

Chandigarh, Nov 11 (PTI) Haryana Chief Secretary D S Dhesi said Sunday it was unfair to blame the state for Delhi's poor air quality, saying that crop residue was burnt only on one per cent of the total sown area of paddy.

Dhesi alleged that the role of Haryana was being adversely publicised regarding the pollution in the National Capital Region.

India: Man arrested for sexually assaulting, killing cousin

Ballia (UP), Nov 11 (PTI) A 22-year-old man has been arrested for reportedly sexually assaulting and killing his minor cousin, police said Sunday.

"The incident took place on November 8 in Garhwar police station area. The accused was arrested on Saturday," Superintendent of Police Sriparna Ganguly said.

The body of the 8-year-old has been sent for postmortem, the officer said.

India: Case against quack for 'raping' minor at clinic

Shahjahanpur (UP), Nov 11 (PTI) A case has been registered against a quack for allegedly raping the minor daughter of a woman who works at his clinic in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad district, police said Sunday.

The accused, Vinod Kushwaha, came to the woman's house at Khajuria Nagla village in Shahjahanpur district last Wednesday and took her daughter to the clinic, where he raped the minor after holding her up as a hostage, said Avnish Yadav, station house officer, Allahganj.
