KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — After every party it’s time to clean up and Mount Everest is no different. The record number of climbers crowding the world’s highest mountain this season has left a government cleanup crew grappling with how to clear away everything from abandoned tents to human waste that threatens drinking water.

India: Another mob-lynching in J'khand

Seraikela-Kharsawan (J'khand), Jun 24 (PTI) A 24-year-old man, who was brutally beaten up here last week on suspicion of being a thief, has died, police said Monday.

The incident took place on June 18 when Tabrez Ansari was returning along with his two friends from Jamshedpur, around 30 km from here, in neighbouring East Singhbhum district.

Some villagers caught them and accused them of stealing a motorcycle at Dhatkidih village in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, police said.

India: TMC MPs hold protest against EVMs in parliament premises

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) TMC MPs are holding a sit-in in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue on the Parliament's premises, demanding election be held by ballot paper instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The party, which has been crying foul over the use of EVMs in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls, Monday said their agenda for the protest was - "No to EVMs, Yes to paper ballots."

India: RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya quits 6 months before term

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya, who was in-charge of the monetary policy department, has resigned six months before the scheduled end of his term, sources said Monday

This is the second high profile resignation in the past six months at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

In December, governor Urjit Patel resigned nearly nine months before the end of his scheduled term over differences with the government.

India: 14 killed, about 50 injured as pandal (marquee) collapses

Barmer/Jaipur, Jun 23 (PTI) At least 14 people were killed and about 50 injured after a pandal fell on them due to strong winds and heavy rains during a religious programme in Barmer district of Rajasthan on Sunday, police said

A 'Ram Katha' was organised at a school ground near Rani Bhatiyani temple in Jasol area of the district. The pandal was uprooted by strong winds, trapping the people sitting under it, police said, adding hundreds of devotees were attending the programme

India: BJP MP gheraoed for alternative housing arrangement

Kanpur: Hundreds of people started raising  slogans against the BJP member of parliament at the gate of his Kakadev residence here on Sunday afternoon. Sensing the gravity of the matter the MP along with ex-MLA met the agitators and assured them of needful action. 

The assembled people were demanding that their houses should not be dismantled. He told them very specifically that the land belonged to the army. His talk with the District Magistrate could bring positive results. They will be provided with piece of land at another alternative location. 

4 Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Shopian dist of Indian administered Kashmir

Shopian, Jun 24: 4 Kashmiris have been killed in an alleged gun battle with Indian security forces in Shopian district of Indian administered Kashmir on Sunday, Indian Army said.

The Indian security forces' spokesman alleged that a cordon and search operation in Daramdora area of Shopian was conducted following information about presence of Kashmiri separatists.

Kia is considering a low-cost electric vehicle (EV) for India

New Delhi, Jun 23 (PTI) South Korean auto major Kia Motors Corporation is considering a low-cost electric vehicle (EV) for India in collaboration with group firm Hyundai Motors and wants personal usage for EVs to be included for government support under the FAME II scheme in India, according to a top company official.

The company, which is a part of the Hyundai Motor Group, plans to launch four new models, including its upcoming SUV Seltos, in the next two years in India but said the low-cost EV would be a separate project.
