Libya: Haftar violates Libya ceasefire

17 Jan 2019; MEMO: Libya’s UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) on Thursday said forces loyal to renegade commander Khalifa Haftar violated the cease-fire in the country, Andolu Agency reports.

Muhammed Kununu, the military spokesman of the GNA, said Haftar militias targeted al-Brega oil complex in southern Tripoli.

The oil complex sustained the damage, he added.

TRIPOLI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Libya's rival forces will sign a ceasefire deal in Moscow on Monday, according to media reports citing local officials.

Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) on Sunday issued a statement expressing agreement to a ceasefire starting from Jan. 12 at midnight (2200 GMT), hours after rival forces announced a cessation of hostilities.

Libya’s Haftar rejects Ankara, Moscow’s call for ceasefire

TRIPOLI, Jan 10 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Eastern Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar rejected calls for a ceasefire by Turkey and Russia and announced a continuation of his military operations.

In a statement read by his spokesman Ahmad al-Mesmari, Haftar claimed a revival of the political process and the country’s stability could only be assured by the “eradication of terrorist groups” and the dissolution of the militia controlling the capital, Tripoli.

Libya’s Higher Council of State recommends government to cut relations with UAE

TRIPOLI, Jan 8 (NNN-Xinhua) — The Higher Council of State of Libya, an advisory body, on Tuesday recommended the UN-backed government to cut relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for “direct involvement in the attack on Tripoli”.

The Council recommended the UN-backed government to cut relations with the UAE for “being a direct partner in the aggression on Tripoli, and in the massacre of the military academy in particular”.

Turkey deploys troops to Libya

ANKARA, Jan 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said troops have begun moving into Libya to ensure stability for the UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli.

The military deployment was approved last week by the Turkish parliament to deter the Libyan rebel forces, led by General Khalifa Haftar, who have been trying to capture the capital.

Gen Haftar is backed by Egypt and the UAE, while the UN-backed government is supported by Turkey and its ally Qatar.
