India: Man arrested for raping eight-year-old girl

Mumbai, Nov 13 (PTI) A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping an eight-year-old girl inside a public toilet in suburban Walada here, police said on Wednesday.

Chand Babu Sheikh lured two eight-year-old girls from Kamala Nagar on the pretext of showing them an 'Eid E Milad' procession on Sunday, a police official said.

The consumer price inflation fastened to 4.62 per cent for October in official data released on Wednesday, resulting in concerns over RBI's rate stance, given that the central bank is mandated to keep the number at 4 per cent.

Indian Rupee crashes to over 2-mth low, tumbles 62 paise

Mumbai, Nov 13 (PTI) The rupee nosedived 62 paise to hit an over two-month low of 72.09 to the US dollar on Wednesday as poor macro data and lingering worries over US-China trade war weighed on sentiment.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened on a weak note at 71.75 against the US dollar. As the day progressed, it crashed below the 72-level and touched the day's low of 72.10. The Indian unit finally settled at 72.09 -- registering a fall of 62 paise over its previous close.

India: BJP deriving 'sadistic pleasure' out of Maha logjam: Sena

Without taking any names, the Sena, in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana', said those who talk of ethics in politics are currently the "most disruptive".

India: Maharashtra Cong leaders meet Uddhav to discuss CMP

Mumbai, Nov 13 (PTI) Congress leaders from Maharashtra met Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday to discuss the modalities of a 'common minimum programme' (CMP) for a possible alliance to form government in the state.

Maharashtra Congress president Balasaheb Thorat, former state chief minister Ashok Chavan and senior party leader Manikrao Thakare held talks with Thackeray at a suburban hotel.

India: Maha under Prez rule, GAD asks to hand over possessions

Mumbai, Nov 12 (PTI) A day after President's Rule came into force in Maharashtra, the ministries have been ordered to hand over possessions to the General Administrative Department (GAD) by Wednesday evening.

The GAD order is applicable to all ministries, OSDs (Officers on Special Duty) working for ministers, personal secretaries and personal assistants.

They are directed to submit telephone bills and return identity cards issued to them to the GAD, the order stated.

India: Cong didn't delay decision on supporting Sena: Chavan

Mumbai, Nov 12 (PTI) Former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday rejected criticism that the Congress delayed its decision on supporting the Shiv Sena for government formation in the state.

Asked whether the Congress has agreed to support the Shiv Sena to form government, Chavan said if that wasn't so, his party would not have held prolonged discussions in Delhi on Monday.

India: Governor recommends President's rule in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Nov 12 (PTI) Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Tuesday recommended President's rule in the state.

As per a statement tweeted by Koshyari's office, "He is satisfied that the government cannot be carried on in accordance with the Constitution, (and therefore) has today submitted a report as contemplated by provision of Article 356 of the Constitution."

Article 356, commonly known as President's rule, deals with 'failure of constitutional machinery in the state'.

India: Responsibility of 'all of us' to give alternative: NCP

Mumbai, Nov 11 (PTI) With the deadlock over government formation continuing in Maharashtra, NCP leader Nawab Malik on Monday said it is the responsibility of "all of us" to give an alternative considering the plight of people in the state.

Malik, however, said the NCP will take any decision in consensus with its ally Congress in the evening.

He also said that communication was going on between the Shiv Sena and NCP.
