Scotland's first minister calls for new independence vote before 2021

LONDON, April 24 (Xinhua) -- People in Scotland should be given the chance before 2021 to vote for independence from the United Kingdom, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said in a major speech Wednesday.

Sturgeon made the call in a speech to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood following the decision by the EU Council to extend Britain's membership of the bloc until October 31.

LONDON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said in Edinburgh on Tuesday that the Brexit deal agreed by British Prime Minister Theresa May and the EU leaders will make Scotland poorer.

Sturgeon, leader of the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP), published an analysis of the impact of May's deal on the people of Scotland, saying compared to staying in the EU, it will cost every resident of Scotland thousands of dollars.

Trump named European Union his biggest foe

When asked in a TV interview on Sunday to name his “biggest foe globally right now”, US President Donald Trump started European Union (EU), and called the body “very difficult”.

“Well I think we have a lot of foes,” Trump told CBS News at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland. “I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade. Now you wouldn’t think of the European Union but they’re a foe.”
