Iran’s exports to Poland grow 114% YOY: Report

Tehran, IRNA – Simultaneous with a visit to Tehran by the Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, a report by Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) suggests that Iran’s exports to Poland over the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20) grew 114% compared to figures from the preceding year.

IRICA spokesman Ruhollah Latifi said that Iran exported over 18,000 tons of goods worth $24 million to Poland over the year under review which shows a 145% growth in term of weight and a 114% increase in value terms year-on-year.

Erdogan calls EU to 'write a new story for itself' amid Ukraine war

ANKARA, 09 May 2022; MEMO: “It is time for the EU, which has moved away from its founding principles and been under the influence of the short-term policies of member countries in recent years, to write a story for itself with the war in Ukraine,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday.

Erdogan noted that Europe Day is celebrated in Turkiye on May 9 ever since the approval of the country’s candidacy status in 1999.

Iran, Poland FMs meet in Tehran

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau met and conferred in the Iranian capital on Sunday.

After the end of their meeting, the two foreign ministers are scheduled to attend a joint press conference.

The Polish foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Sunday night for a three-day visit.

Iran to initiate longest horizontal offshore drilling in Mideast

Tehran, IRNA – The Islamic Republic of Iran plans to start the longest horizontal offshore drilling in the Middle East from Laft Port to Qeshm Island within a month, an Iranian official said.

Managing Director of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) Reza Noshadi made the remark in a news conference on Sunday, saying that the gas pipe-laying has reached Zabol county in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeastern Iran.

US lawmakers signal openness to selling Turkiye F-16s

WASHINGTON 05 May 2022; AA: Lawmakers pivotal to Turkiye's purchase of dozens of F-16 fighter jets have indicated they are receptive to the sale, according to a report published on Thursday.

The matter has been complicated by Ankara's purchase of the advanced Russian S-400 anti-air system, which has led to an ongoing row with Washington that resulted in sanctions and Turkiye's expulsion from the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program.

Saudi flag carrier resumes flights to Istanbul after 2-year hiatus

ISTANBUL, 07 May 2022; AA: Saudi Arabia’s flag carrier Saudia resumed flights on Saturday to the Turkish city of Istanbul after a two-year suspension over the coronavirus pandemic.

A flight operated by the airline landed at Istanbul Airport on Saturday from Jeddah with 130 passengers on board.

Passengers were welcomed by flowers upon arrival at the airport.

India: LPG price hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder

New Delhi, May 7 (PTI) Cooking gas LPG price on Saturday was hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder to record high levels on the back of firming international energy rates.

A 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in the national capital will now cost Rs 999.50 as against Rs 949.50 per cylinder previously, a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers showed.

This is the second increase in LPG rates in six weeks. Rates were hiked by Rs 50 on March 22.

Indian Rupee plummets 55 paise to 76.90 per USD

Mumbai, May 6 (PTI) Snapping its four-day winning run, the rupee slumped 55 paise to close at 76.90 against the US dollar on Friday as heavy foreign fund outflows and hardening crude oil prices took a toll on sentiment.

Global sentiment was risk-averse on renewed concerns over growth and inflation, which hit most emerging market currencies, forex traders said.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened lower at 76.61 against the greenback, and moved in a range of 76.56 and 76.96.

US Senate Committee passes Bill pressuring OPEC oil cartel

05 May 2022; MEMO: A US Senate Committee passed a Bill on Thursday that could expose the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and partners to lawsuits for collusion on boosting crude oil prices, Reuters reports.

The No Oil Producing or Exporting Cartels (NOPEC) Bill sponsored by senators, including Republican Chuck Grassley and Democrat Amy Klobuchar, passed 17-4 in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
