KANPUR: The frequent jam at the railways' crossings from Anwarganj to Mandhna remains a big nuisance for the denizens. To deal with this situation a proposal to divert the track from Mandhna and connect it with Panki railway station has been suggested. In this regard, the divisional commissioner has sent a letter to the North Central Railways and Eastern Railways General Managers respectively.
Detailing the problems and benefits after linking the diversion route the divisional commissioner has sought swift action. He has cited the example of the letter sent to him by Satyadev Pachauri, MP.
From Mandhna to Anwarganj there were as many as 12 crossings. In the case of closed crossing gate, the jam begins to surge at Zarib Chowki, Coca Cola crossing, Rawatpur, Gitanagar, Sharda Nagar, Bagia, Panki, Kalyanpur and etc. The crossings divide the city into two separate parts. GT Road blocks completly.
The worst affected are the patients who fail to reach hospitals or nursing homes on time. Jam causes unnecessary delay and this even leads to the death of the heart patients.
Although the diversion of the track was agreed upon in principle yet the action was not taken so far. This problem lingers for the past several years. The daily commuters have their different tales of woes.
In the year 2012, there was decided to change the alignment from Mandhna to Panki and a survey was also done. This would cover areas Kothi Gaon, Prem Gaon to reach Panki. A new railway station at Maqsudabad has already been proposed. To pass the trains easily there is also a plan to construct an elevated track at Nasenia. The length of track from Mandhna to Panki comes to 17.2 Kms, according to the reports.
