Kanpur: A procession on Ashura has been taken out in Jajmau area here on Tuesday. It was an Alam juror attended by a large number of people.
On both sides of the road, the people were waiting for the Muharram procession which passing through different localities finally culminated at Dada Miya ki Mazar.
Earlier, the busy roads were seen as completely vacant as the shops were closed. When one shopkeeper in Purani Sabzi Mandi area was asked why were a few shops closed? His quick response was it was because of Muharram.
No rush, less traffic and scant people were the exact scene on the main 150 feet road leading towards different directions. But the crowd surged as the procession started passing moving through the road onwards. The children were taking much interest in having a look at the slow movement of the procession.
There were arrangements of some stalls extending cold sweet water to the passers-by on one side of the road. This was a way to show respect to the Karbala martyrs who had been even denied water.
However, the residents looked irritated at the power cut in the afternoon. It was not restored until night. They were overheard saying the invertor is not working. How can it stay longer? In a family of five, one was resting under the ceiling fan while others were sweating and cursing the electricity department. Standing on the balcony the housewives were enquiring of the time of restoration of the power supply.
