India: Kanpur's image to improve with freight corridor

KANPUR: City’s industrial face will secure a new identity with the railways' dedicated freight corridor planned from Amritsar to Kolkatta, said Union minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha. Speaking at a programme organised at Panki Dham railways station here on Saturday. He reiterated that our union government had augmented investment in the railways. It increased from rupees 39 thousand crores in the year 2004 to 148 thousand crores rupees.

Replying a query on the BSP-SP alliance in UP, he stated that this would have no impact on the Bhartiya Janata Party. People knew the difference.

Earlier he also inaugurated the yard up-gradation work, rechristening name of Panki Dham railway station and opening the start of the passenger train on the line laid between Panki Dham and Bhaupur.

Speaking on the occasion, Devendra Singh Bhole, MP, raised demand for construction of a foot overbridge on Panki Dham station, stoppage of Jhansi Inter-city at Bhimsen and rising of RoB on Panki Padav railway crossing. The state minister assured him for fulfilling his demands.

Pointing out his views Satish Mahana, UP Industrial Development Minister, said that industrial zones would be set up along DFC  at various places in Uttar Pradesh. An area of 2500 acres of land has also been identified for this purpose. He also urged the minister to construct RoB on Chakeri and Sarsaul railway stations respectively. Senior railway officers were also present on the occasion.
