Kanpur: Silence, tears and then the conversation began on the mobile phone. On the receiving end, the family was contended to hear the voice of a father, husband and brother even.
It was after a long, long year the person named Shamshuddin, who was imprisoned on a serious but unestablished charges in Pakistan jail, was due to come to his home at Beri ka Hata here in the city.
He phoned from his mandatory quarantine centre at Amritsar which has been completed on Monday. His sobbing echoed into the air during the conversation.
The family was said to have lost the hope of seeing him again. Upon hearing the salutation of his daughter, his eyes immersed into the tears.
Younger brother reminisced the past days passed with him. Even he started collecting about his deceased father. He left his city in the year 1992. Anyhow he got vocation in shoe making and called his wife and daughters in Karachi. But later they returned in the year 1994. He happens to be a resident of Kanghi Mohal in Bazaria area.
The story can not end without mention of sister Sara whose joys knew no bounds on hearing his voice.
Narrating his story of torments in Pak jail he feels sad. He said: "There were no pains of brutality which he had not endured.
His body begins to tremble by telling the extreme animalness he had to bear in the jail of the neighbouring country."
He added that he had to give proof of not being a "jasoos" of India for as many as 8 years. He was put into Karachi jail on October 24, 2012 and handed over to Indian army on October 26, 2020. He is now on cusp of returning to his beloved country.
It was learnt that he will be sent from Amritsar after completion of his quarantine. It was reported that the Bazaria police has supposedly made telephonic contact with his family members.
