CYBERJAYA, March 30 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia will have its first 5G Cybersecurity Test Lab by 2023, said CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab.
The facility, to be located within CSM’s premises in Cyberjaya, will encompass a comprehensive 5G testbed ecosystem incorporating technologies such as 5G radio access network, Edge Network, Core Network, Cloud Application as well as End User devices which are equipped with security test tools.
“The lab will not only execute test cases pertaining to the Internet of Things (IoT) and telecommunications security but also improve the country’s preparedness in responding to cyber attacks in relation to 5G,” he told a press conference after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between CSM, Celcom Axiata Berhad and Huawei Malaysia here today.
The MoU, to establish the objective of understanding, learning, managing and reducing threats related to 5G security, was signed by Amirudin on behalf of CSM, Celcom CEO Idham Nawawi and Huawei Malaysia CEO Michael Yuan.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah had reportedly said that the test lab would be a model for end-to-end cybersecurity, covering a number of scenarios and offering services inclusive of mobile applications and hardware evaluation.
Idham, meanwhile, said the collaboration further signified Celcom’s commitment and vigilance to developing and innovating cybersecurity, especially in preparation for the introduction of 5G technology.
He said the telco company planned to engage and synergise with its established business partners from various technology pillars and leverage the lab as a platform for research and analytics of secure IoT solutions.
