08 May 2021; MEMO: A Saudi official from the Saudi Foreign Ministry has revealed that the kingdom is talking with Iran to "deescalate tension" in the region, Arabic news sources reported Reuters stating on Friday.
According to the Arabic news sources, Reuters reported Ambassador Raed Karimli, head of Policy Planning at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirming: "It is early to say that we reached any specific outcomes," hoping success for these talks.
Earlier, news reports stated that senior Saudi and Iranian officials held direct talks in Baghdad on 9 April, noting that the two sides discussed Yemen's Houthi forces and other issues.
In an interview with Saudi Rotana TV, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman hailed Iran and considered it a: "Neighbour and all what we hope is to have excellent relations with it."
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry considered the change of Saudi stance towards Iran a positive move, stressing that it is ready to start a new chapter of cooperation with Saudi Arabia to achieve peace and stability in the region.
