 Mahmood Abbas

07 Sep 2021; MEMO: President Mahmoud Abbas called Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Defence Minister Benny Gantz on Monday and congratulated them on the occasion of the Jewish New Year, the Palestinian leader's office has announced. Abbas expressed his hopes for peace in the coming year.

According to Herzog's spokesperson, Abbas also wished for more cooperation and dialogue that will bring hope for both peoples.

Gantz's office, meanwhile, said that he and Abbas discussed "the need to strengthen ties in the coming year and wished each other a year of health, economic prosperity and security stability."

Abbas always sends best wishes to Israeli leaders for their holidays which are used by Jewish settlers, protected by the police and army, to raid occupied Jerusalem's Old City and desecrate Al Aqsa Mosque. To facilitate such incursions, the Israeli border police impose restrictions on the Palestinians who try to perform their five daily prayers at Islam's third holiest site.
