05 Nov 2021; MEMO: Sudan army chief, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has approved the nominations of the new Sudanese Sovereignty Council, a military source said yesterday.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the media that the council would be made up of "five military officials and eight representatives of the Sudan regions, as well as a female figure."
He added the news was expected to be announced "within the coming hours."
The official pointed out that there were "three nominations for the prime minister's post, including Omar Dahab, Mudawi Ibrahim, and Hunud Abia Kadouf – director of the International University of Africa."
He noted that ousted premier, Abdulla Hamdouk, did not agree to take over the presidency of the new transitional government.
"There is a deadline for mediation by local, regional and international communities with Hamdok to accept the Al-Burhan offer of taking up the post of prime minister," the source said.
Sudan has, for weeks, been witnessing protests rejecting what people have called a "military coup" on 25 October. Coup leader, Al-Burhan, dissolved the sovereignty council, dismissed the country's governors, and arrested Hamdok, leaders, ministers and officials, days before his military administration was due to hand over power to the civilian forces in the transitional government.
