KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- A fatal crash involving a tourist van left six people dead near Genting Highlands in Pahang state, authorities said on Wednesday.
At around 1:15 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the van with 14 passengers on board was descending from Genting Highlands, Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa told the state news agency Bernama.
Eight others were injured in the accident and the victims were taken to the Bentong Hospital and Selayang Hospital, said Wan Mohammad.
Meanwhile Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Saufi Zakaria said five women and the male van driver were killed on the spot, with the rescuers having to use tools to extricate the victims from the wreckage, according to local newspaper New Straits Times.
Genting Highlands is a popular tourist destination located in a mountainous area.
