WARSAW, February 24. /TASS/: Poland has already sent to Ukraine the first Leopard 2 tanks out of the 14 promised, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and National Defense Minister Mariusz B·aszczak said on Friday, speaking at the opening of the country’s National Security Council.
"Today Polish [Leopard] tanks have already reached Ukraine," he said, speaking at the opening of the country’s National Security Council.
According to Polish President Andrzej Duda, who also participated in the event, the Prime Minister went to Kiev to "take the Polish Leopards there." "[These] are the first tanks that are part of the coalition tank aid <...> that will reach Ukraine," he added.
On January 25, the German government confirmed that it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and would give other countries permission to re-export the equipment. The United Kingdom, Norway, Slovakia, the United States and France also announced their intention to provide Kiev with Western-made tanks. Poland announced plans to allocate 14 tanks. Kiev expects to receive up to 140 tanks from 12 countries as its first batch.
