Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal was slapped by a man during a roadshow in Delhi's Moti Nagar area on Saturday. Arvind Kejriwal was slapped when he was holding the roadshow in Delhi for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
According to India Today, a man, wearing a red T-shirt, climbed atop Arvind Kejriwal's open jeep and slapped the Delhi chief minister before being taken down by AAP supporters. The 33-year-old man has been identified as Suresh of Kailash Park.
Suresh also threw verbal abuse towards Kejriwal. He was taken to Moti Nagar police station.
AAP spokesman Saurabh Bharadwaj has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Modi supporters for the attack.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday claimed that the man is an avid Narendra Modi supporter.
Sisodia cited a news report in a tweet saying that the attacker's wife said that he "is a Modi-bhakt", adding that the police claimed her husband was an AAP leader
"The attacker's wife is saying that her husband is a Modi-bhakt, police claims he was an AAP leader. It is possible that after the interrogation of BJP (Delhi) Police, this man could deny that this woman is not his wife," Sisodia said in a tweet.
"Kya Modi aur Amit Shah ab Kejriwal ki hatya karwana chahte hain? 5 saal saari taaqat lagakar jiska manobal nahi tod sake, chunav mein nahi hara sake ab usse raaste se iss tarah hatana chahte ho kaayaron! Ye Kejriwal hi tumhara kaal hai," (Do Modi and Amit Shah now want to get Kejriwal killed? You could not break Kejriwal's morale and defeat him in elections for five years. Is this how you want to remove from your way? Kejriwal is your doom.), Manish Sisodia said.
Trinamool Congress, too, has condemned the incident, reported India Today.
