BEIRUT, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed, and six others were injured in a car accident on the Qalamoun highway in northern Lebanon, LBCI local TV channel reported.
The accident happened as two cars collided, causing one to hit a utility pole.
The victims were transported to nearby hospitals.
A study on road crashes in Lebanon conducted by the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon in 2022 revealed that vehicle-vehicle collisions caused the highest proportion of accidents, with a national average of 36.2 percent, followed by vehicle-motorcycle and vehicle-pedestrian incidents, accounting for 34.9 percent and 10.7 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, vehicle-vehicle collisions claimed the highest fatalities and injuries, according to the study.
