BASRA, Iraq July 16 (Reuters) - The demolition on Friday of a 300-year-old minaret of a mosque in Iraq's southern city of Basra to make way for road expansion has enraged locals, religious and cultural authorities who condemned it as a further erosion of Iraq's cultural heritage.

Built in 1727, the 11-metre (36 ft) Siraji minaret and its mosque were toppled by a bulldozer at dawn on Friday morning, its brown mud-brick spire with turquoise ornaments disappearing in a cloud of dust.

Angola drops COVID-19 test requirement for travellers

LUANDA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Angolan government has eliminated the requirement of presenting a vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 test result for travellers entering or leaving the country, starting from Saturday, according to a presidential decree.

The decree noted that face masks must be worn in healthcare facilities and similar services, while their use in other public areas is optional.

It is emphasized in the decree that departure from Angola may be subject to health surveillance requirements established by the destination country.

USA: Third-party No Labels will not be a 'spoiler' in 2024 election, chair says

WASHINGTON, July 16 (Reuters) - The third-party No Labels group will stay out of the 2024 U.S. presidential race if polling shows its candidate would play a "spoiler" role by helping to elect either the Democratic or Republican nominee, co-chairman Joe Lieberman said on Sunday.

The group will on Monday release what it calls a "common sense" agenda of policies meant to help unite the country behind a cooperative moderate alternative to the partisanship that characterizes contemporary U.S. politics.

Russia investigating if this week's North Korean test missile crashed in its waters

July 15 (Reuters) - Russia is investigating whether a North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile crashed in its waters during a test launch on Wednesday, state media quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko as saying.

RIA and TASS news agencies quoted Rudenko as saying that Russia's defence ministry was investigating, but "so far we have no clear information that the missile fell in Russia's economic zone".
