Governor Mason to be declared first President of Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Oct 21 (NNN-TELESUR) — Barbados’ Parliament on Wednesday unanimously voted Governor Sandra Mason to be declared as first Barbadian president and formally end their country’s association to the British Crown on Nov 30.

“I am convinced that Mason will play a good role as president for her tireless work on behalf of the Barbadian people during over 30 years of political career,” lawmaker Joseph Atherley stated while he congratulated the President-elect.

Barbados to become Republic on Nov 30

BRIDGETOWN, Oct 2 (NNN-TELESUR) — Barbados’s Parliament unanimously approved a constitutional reform to turn the Caribbean country into a republic and end its association with the British Crown.

In addition to revoking the 1966 Order of Barbados as an Order in her Majesty’s Council, the constitutional reform establishes that a Barbadian should be head of state instead of Queen Elizabeth II.

CARICOM summit convened to analyse corona crisis

BRIDGETOWN, April 13 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has convened a special summit for Wednesday to analyze the crisis created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The meeting was convened by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, current president of the regional mechanism, which groups 15 countries in the region.

The main goal of the event is to exchange ideas and experiences on the ‘impact of the deadly virus,’ said the president.
